Make your own Microwave Popcorn

I'm going to now take out my magic wand and show you my popcorn trick. Place 1/4 cup un-popped corn in a brown paper lunch bag. Fold over the top an inch and secure with scotch tape. Place in microwave on high for 2.5 min. There you go. No oil, just air. Brilliant. Tip: Your microwave has a different temperature and cooking time than mine. You will burn a few. Remove the bag when the popping slows down, not when the last kernel is popped! You have just saved big bucks, and big calories.

My brother does this all the time... why invest in a separate piece of equipment? Although it is getting harder and harder to find plain old-fashioned popcorn in the store.0 -

This may be the coolest thing I've learned here!!! This is a new family favorite. It makes just enough and I eat it plain and salt free and by family will melt a little butter for taste. Cheap and much healthier than microwave popcorn. Who knew????????0

Thanks! I was just wondering recently if it was possible to make my own just using a brown paper bag. Now I know!0

As auntiebabs said, regular popcorn is getting harder and harder to find! There is such a profit margin in the pre-bagged, greased micro pouches, that the big brands are buying out the shelf space. Walmart carries one brand of raw, their own. I keep a few bags on hand! Glad this helped! You might burn a few bags at first. Monitor your microwave settings and you'll get it!0

Pretty sure you can air-pop popcorn in a saucepan (with lid, obviously!) on the hob too, without needing to add any butter or oil or anything.0

If you don't have a paper bag (or just want to be a little bit "greener"), you can put the unpopped corn in a microwave safe bowl with a loose cover on top.0
