So, I've recently been sick. Don't know with what--had a big of an upset stomach and a fever, just a general sense of overall fatigue the past 2 days (I may be going to the doctor, but I'm starting to feel better). I pushed through it and worked out the past few days, but today I slept more and am planning on taking the day off from working out, even though I don't want to because I have to take the whole weekend off because I'm traveling :\ . Do you think it's the right move to not work out when sick, and should I also up to eating maintenance cals while I'm sick?

I think that when you're sick, you need to rest. You have the rest of your life to work out, and slacking a little for one week isn't going to kill you. You need to stop pushing your body while it's obviously already fighting other battles. Drink plenty of fluids, continue to eat right, and you'll be back to in next week in no time.

Although I've heard that "it depends with what kind of sick", I found I have a faster recovery time with rest, fluids and a good amount of food because whenever I stress my immune system with activity, dehydration, and hunger it seems like the sickness drags on. The body needs an arsenal of nutrients to fight illness and if they're not there, I can't see how a fast resolution is possible. My non-professional recommendation would be to take it easy and when you're feeling back on track, then return to the disciplined routine.

I am also sick with upset stomach and sinusitis. I worry about not working out much, so I just make sure I dont eat to much, which I dont feel hungry but water and soup. It does not hurt to skip for a day or 2. Your body need rest to get your body back in shape.
Hope you feel better soon.. it is sucks to be sick when you wanna do something such as workout, cooking and etc.

I generally like to increase my vitamin C intake and continue to train, but just because I'm a believe in sweating it out, but only you know your body and know if you can or cant do something.

It seems as if upset stomachs are going around. I feel the same way today. I couldn't drag myself out of bed this morning to go to the gym so I am hoping that I feel better tonight and can make it over there. If not, I will go tomorrow.

You need to rest because if you over exercise, your going to drain your body even more and that is probably worse for you.

Listen to your body! If you are feeling tired and want to sleep; its because your body needs to. A nurse told me never to exercise when you have a temperature as it can cause endocarditis (inflamation of the heart lining).

If you have an upset tummy you may not feel like eating; just do what you can and dont rush; you will get better all the quicker.
