i hear good things about it, but i'm not sold yet. i'm not a fan of hot teas, but i could do the cold kind already made up and bottled. does it really do anything? is it worth buying?

It's chock full of antioxidants. VERY healthy.

But I don't like the taste, so it's not my tea of choice, unless it's green-tea based but a different flavor.

I think there has not been a ton of evidence that it will do anything miraculous but I'd be interested in any good studies someone had to post.
  • no definite evidence that the antioxidants in green tea really do benefit you in any significant way. however, i drink it cause the taste and temperature help me control sweet cravings. also, i grew up drinking tea so i just like it anyway.
  • oh also! if you buy bottled, make sure it's just plain green tea and not sugared or anything like that.

they also sell green tea + flavor tea bags. my work stocks this green tea + pomegranate that's delicious. maybe you can try those.

I hate the taste of green tea so I just take a green tea extract tablet every day. It does seem to give my metabolism a little boost.

Sometimes I'll toss 2-3 bags in a liter of water (shaker bottle) in the fridge over night, a packet or two of sweetner will give ya a nice, cold green-tea drink for the next day. Like 1/10 the cost of buying iced green tea. Sometimes I put lemon or honey in it also.

If that's what you going to do I wouldn't even bother. Most of the bottled up stuff is garbage. To get the most benefits and best flavor your always better off going with lose leaf. If you do tea bags, be picky about the kind you buy because a lot of them are filled with just scraps.

...Making your own tea really isn't that hard or time consuming. If you don't like it hot, just chill it!
  • I've been drinking Choy Yung Green tea - not sure if it's available anywhere outside the UK...I have found it to be very good in helping me lose weight.

You are supposed to watch what you eat and increase your exercise, but to be honest I have not been watching what I eat, although I have increased my exercise. I have now lost 1 stone.

If you're burning more calories, it's not the tea causing you to lose weight.
  • No, cos I haven't been doing that much exercise lately

Your previous post said you increased your exercise ...
  • Sorry, I meant I increased my exercise a few months back - from nothing to about 3 times a week...but just recently I haven't had the time to exercise but I still seem to be losing weight

You said you aren't doing better with food, but I wonder if you're eating fewer calories by default. When I drink tea (or any hot liquid, really), it kills my appetite for hours after, so I eat less even without trying. Have you tracked calories and seen if this is the case?

I love Green Tea and other varities, tons of Antioxidants and some research has shown it can help burn fat/calories. I like it both hot and cold, if you wanna make it a lil sweeter mix in some stevia, better than sugar and all natural. I preffer the Stevia In The Raw brand cause theres nothing else mixed in with it.

Green tea does not magically help you lose weight but contains catechins which may and I say may according to some medical journals help with the metabolic breakdown of body fat , but many people on the net were selling it on the net as a miracle weight loss cure...It is not it may be just another food item which assists the body !

Drink it because you like it....not because some website says its the new weight loss cure !

If you really really want to lose weight you need something called H.W.A.S....this guarantees weightloss but lots of people cant get on with it ,when used with a sensible diet and unlike the magical cures of the internet it is fully documented by all the world medical organisations !

it's not going to make huge obvious changes.

i used to drink it alot as an alternative to coffee, so it was cutting out all the milk and other such rubbish (i don't have sugar). so i used it as a water alternative.

Green tea will obliterate fat according to my TV.
  • I'm a cancer survivor and most of the nutrition classes I've been to (through the hospital, with nutritionist) have said that there is some evidence that green tea is a good source of antioxidants. You have to drink something like 6 cups daily to get the full benefits, but even a little is good.

Sometimes I use a green tea bag and another kind (chai, herbal fruit flavour, whatever you like) and the green tea flavour is masked (I don't really like it either). You can brew it then put it in the fridge if you like it better cold. I don't add any sweetener, but you could. Not sure if it helps any with weight loss, but I'll cross my fingers on the anti-oxidants.
