Diet Sodas...

I've completely cut out Diet Dr. Peppers because all I hear are negative things about aspartame. I'm wondering if one diet drink a day is bad or good or neutral. Just looking for other opinions or any information you might have heard. Caffeine is something I need to get the engine going in the morning and the only thing to help. I'd love to hear any opinions. Thanks

I have personally given up any diet sodas b/c aspartame was causing severe headaches!:noway: Ever since, I haven't had one. I mean, I would have a constant one every single day. Nothing would budge it.

i cut out all diet sodas beside diet coke plus. i feel like the vitamins and minerals kinda contradict the fact that its a soda... i'm probably just justifying it :grumble: at least it doesn't have the metal taste of some diet cokes

you can find diet sodas made with splenda though, those are probably better for ya

I've never been able to drink diet sodas, aspartame gives me headaches as well!
  • I never drank diet but I was an avid Mt. Dew drinker all day everyday and had to have it when I got up in the morning. Since I started eating right and working out I cut it out cold turkey and since I have not had a headache and I get up and have great energy in the morning. All I drink is water. I actually tried to drink a coke zero today and it hurt my stomach after 2 drinks. No carbonated drinks for me.
To answer your question though I'm it wouldn't make a big difference with just one but why do it?

I don't drink coffee so I need something to get me going in the morning. I'm in clinicals now and I have to be there for 6am and same once I graduate. It seems the only thing to wake me up. I've tried vitamins but since I'm up so early I feel too nauseous after I eat so I usually just eat a nutrition bar. Diet drinks are the only think I know to kinda "wake me up"

I don't think that anyone would go so far as to say they're good for you...maybe neutral. Maybe you could try hot tea in the morning instead? It has some caffeine but probably not as much and if you're worried about aspartame you could use Splenda if you need to sweeten it.

You could take caffeine pills. If you're really struggling, they don't contain any more caffeine than 2 cups of coffee. Then you're just getting the caffeine without any added sugars. I've had to do that in the past when I was working two jobs and taking 16-18 credits. Just don't take more than you need (which should be 1).

Wow. You were a busy lady. I can barely hand just school right now! But thanks I never really thought about caffeine pills. I'll have to look into that. Thanks everyone for all your help!

I've heard that diet pop (yeah, we call it "pop" in Michigan) isn't good for me but aspartame doesn't affect me, so if I want one I have one. I have the caffeine free diet Pepsi because I drink caffeinated coffee all morning. However, I'm not addicted to diet pop (like others are) so I can go days without having one.

Me too. I used to drink just one a day for my morning break at school and once I started watching what I was eating, I just quit completely with the exception of a little soda every once in a blue moon. I didn't have headaches or any problem quitting at all unlike some of my co workers did.

I get headaches due to a lack of caffeine, not aspartame. I don't really drink soda (I used to call it 'pop' but moved to VA in 2003 LOL) but I looooove coffee. I get fresh ground Starbucks coffee from the shop on campus for FREE with my meal plan!

I wish I did like coffee but I can't stand the taste of it, tea either except diet lipton green tea with citrus, which also happens to have aspartame in it too. :grumble:

Oh, I feel you on this one!
I've been drinking Coke Zero, which has Splenda instead of nutrasweet. Splenda hasn't been proven to be bad yet. I like it better because it's sweeter
Black coffee and tea have almost zero calories.
For something sweet, you could try seltzer water with a squeeze of orange or lemon wedge.
But I know nothing does it like a diet coke.

Is that true? Does Coke Zero really have splenda in it rather than nutrasweet?
