It's just a way that people can save a topic for later reading without making a real comment on it.

It's an acronym for Because Umbrellas Mean People. See, people will post that in the forums any time there is a chance of rain nearby, with hopes that it will bring more people to the site.

    Although I could be wrong...

    From Wikipedia :)

Bump (Internet), returning a thread to the top of the list of active threads (acceptable reasons range from wanting to remind others that the question with which the thread started is still unanswered to offering new information that relates to an old thread; a less agreeable practice—as unwelcome as spam—is to do it simply to raise the thread's profile); the term is related to the concept of "bumping (pushing) something up" though others suggest that it is an acronym for "Bring up my post" (however, "bump" applies to any post in a thread, not just one's own posts)

If you're talking about instances where that is the only word that some has written then it usually is added because someone wants to move the topic back up to the top so it gets more attention. For instance, if this post you wrote were sitting here for an hour, unanswered, if would move below other topics that are more recent. You or someone else might add a reply of "Bump" which would make the topic/post show as having recent activity therefore moving it back to the top of the list of topics where it can more easily gain attention and hopefully catch the eye of someone who will have an answer or feedback pertaining to the topic. (I hope that makes sense.)

Well back in my club-going days, a "bump" was a small amount of cocaine snorted off a key in a bathroom stall.

    Hope this helps!

I learned it is what you write as a reply if you haven't read the whole post or if you want to go back to it later. You just go to your own profile and it will be listed as one of your posts. Brilliant, eh?
