Need some advice!

Hi! I am 5'8 and about five years ago I lost 70lbs. I have been able to maintain by watching what I eat, and exercising on a regular basis. About two years ago I hit a stopping point of losing weight. I would love to loose just 15 more pounds for my goal weight of 160. I had given up, but my sister-in-law asked me to start MFP with her, and I figured lets go for it. Since starting MFP, I have lost just five pounds. (The same five I always loose and gain) I drink lots of water, stay within my calories, and workout at least four times a week. I need some advice to get me over this hump!

Have you tried switching up your workouts to a new routine? I had to do that when I came to a weight loss plateau and it helped me so much. I started a new program and a protein shake.
  • I started doing some different workouts this last Monday. I will weigh in this Monday and see if it helped any.

I was in the same boat! and first off--good for you for losing the weight and keeping in control! :) If you're looking to jumpstart, you need to shake up your routine at the gym--your body's probably gotten used to the same ol' same ol'. From there, I actually just did a juice diet and supplemented with protein last week and it helped jumpstart my weightloss again (people are going to probably attack me for mentioning it, but I did the research before jumping in...not saying it's right for everyone, but it was great for me). So! if that's an interest, google fat sick and nearly dead (it's a documentary) and check out the reboot...I really loved it!

    good luck!

Switching up workout routines is a good call, also perhaps through some resistance training in there if you have not already...though muscle is denser than fat it does help burn more cals. The other is to look at your eating - do you eat your exercise calories or no? Perhaps a temporary shift in that will help boot you off that plateau? Sometimes just shaking up the routine is what is needed. (Ok, and sometimes we just gotta go nuts and work like madpeople to shed that last/stubborn XX poundage!)

If you want it, do it. I bet you can!

I have an elliptical that I do a couple times a week for 25-30min at a time. I try to walk 3 times a week on top of that. When I don't do the elliptical I do some Jillian Michaels cardio DVDs. About twice I week I will do strength training.

Thanks! I just started yesterday not eating my exercise calories. To be honest, that thought had never occured to me until I read it on here a couple days ago!

Interesting, thanks. I will have to look it up. I've tried some stuff like that, and I am not good at it. I need food!!
