Scales dilemma

I've been using Weight Watchers scales since i started on MFP and been very careful not to weigh myself on any others. Well that was until yesterday and now i'm in a bit of a pickle with it all.
My Mum has Salter scales and she told me that she'd jumped on mine to check her weight and it came up with a different weight. I jumped on and her Salter ones come up 2.25lbs lighter than my Weight Watchers ones. Now i'm confused because i thought i had 4.25lbs to go to reach my 8st goal weight but it could be less and i just don't know what to do!

A friend of mine on here suggested that i use some weights on the scales to check if they weigh accurately but i tried that and it won't record the weight on either. This may be because your feet are meant to be in a certain spot.

Any suggestions are very welcome..........please!

Thanks :-)

I'd stick with the scale you started with. Even if it is wrong, it is consistently wrong and consistency is the key here. Just my humble opinion.

Agreed. It could be wrong but consistently wrong. I know that doesn't help as much, esp if you're slightly obsessed with the numbers ( I am kind of obsessed with the numbers...so it would be really irritating to me to have varying numbers)

Could you weigh yourself holding the weight and then without? then you'd get how much the weight is. I did that once with my purse to see how much it weighs lol.

LOL I did the same thing with my purse! We weigh the dog like that too. Also some giant cucumbers from the garden
    (one was 6 pounds).

Honestly I would stick with the scale that you've been using, even if it's wrong it is consistent.

If they are the old type Salter mechanical scales ...... if you lean back slightly they will say you weigh less and then lean forward and they will say more .......I would go with your weight watcher scales !

Seriously, why are you so worried about 2lbs?? A goal isnt set in stone. Surely you should be going by how you feel and look in your clothes??

Do you feel like you need to lose 2lbs or 4lbs?? Or perhaps 7 or 10lbs??? Or perhaps you feel fine the way you are now??

Scales are never accurate. They are the devil!!! If you weigh on 10 different scales, you will get at least 6 different weights!!

So, just stick to where you feel happy with yourself
  • Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to stick with my scales!

My scales died halfway through my weight loss and caused a bit of a pickle! I left it a month before purchasing any (carrying on with MFP as normal but no weigh-ins) and then purchased some Salter scales and put an item weighing a kilo on them which showed exactly so I felt confident they are accurate. The WW scales come highly recommended though.

Personally stick with your current scales and also with how you feel about your body, a loss is a loss no matter what the numbers are.

    Good luck! :flowerforyou:

I had weight watcher scales and found them completely unreliable, they would give me a different weight every time I stood on them. I now use mechanical EKS scales and find them accurate and consistent. Just thought I would give you my 2pence as I've had both.
  • I weigh different on my scales to the ones at the gym to the ones in Boots to the ones at my friends house....... I got fed up with it, so threw away the scales and now just weight myself on the proper ones in Boots once a month! Its much more accurate as your weight can fluctuate a few pounds each day anyway!
  • My fiancees mum's scales say that I'm lighter than the ones I use at home. So I try and stick to using the ones that say I'm heavier. The possibility that I might be lighter than mine say is just a bonus. When I lose all my weight I might be 3lbs lighter than I think I am. Which is just fab!
