reassessment of goals or failure?

The more I've been thinking of training for this half-marathon, the less I want to do it. It's not that I don't like to work out, it's that distance running has stopped being that high for me now. And I feel this pressure to do it though because I've become "the runner" among people I know, and I'll feel like a failure if I don't. I'm not sure how to get over that. =/

Can you find a 10k or 5k and train for that instead?
I'm training for a half and am realising that it really is a committment to put in the time and the distance so I understand where you are coming from.

There is nothing wrong with changing your goals. You set them for yourself in the first place. Priorities change and it isn't a failure.

I already do 5Ks, but I'm thinking I might want to focus on bettering my time. Did a 15K last month. Might give 10K distance a shot.

Good idea... or I see lots of people talking about stuff like mud runs etc - maybe there is some kind of "novelty event" (for want of a better term) in your area.
Or stick with a speed goal for the 5k - that's a great goal!

Races don't define. Distances don't define you. Do whatever feels right to you on your own schedule.

I think people often rush too fast into longer races. Take your time, enjoy yourself and make sure running stays fun.

Dude, it's only 'failure' if you deem it to be so. So what if you change your goals for now? I change mine on a daily basis, and I rock like nobody's business. Eff whatever labels the people you know have put on you. Life's too short for that kind of poop.

I will second GoLeanWedny in that if you facing a moment of struggle with this then stick it out a bit longer until you really know. If you are training because that is what other think you should do then what you really need to figure out is why do you do things because others think you should. If you started training because you were intrigued and excited about the idea then don't quit now...you will always wonder if you do
