Hello, I'm new to my fitness pal and have been enjoying having a source of inspiration to help me get on track with improving my health. However, the majority of what I eat is home cooked and the only thing I DON'T like about this site is when logging foods, the database is mostly user contributed and can be difficult to find or create foods that match homemade recipes or recipes with unknown sources. So, how accurate is my calorie count? Does anyone else have this issue or tips for handling it?

Enter each recipe ingredient individually (you can use the recipe section for this) and choose foods that have no asterisks in front of them in the database (those are the non-user submitted foods)

I use the recipe creator all the time and find it really useful, it tells me that a lot of what I cook is much healthier than I thought :) You can state how many people each recipe serves and then select how many servings you have at one time!

+1 on using the recipe function. I wish there was a separate ingredient database so when you searched for an onion you didn't get 10 kinds of sour cream and onion potato chips though!

Exactly, LOL! For short recipes it's no big deal to enter the ingredients, but some of mine are pretty detailed. Oh well, this tool is still helping me get on track!
