I joined this site a week ago. I and I've been increasing my calories to the amount suggested by MFP. So the past few days I am sooo hungry ( not like me at all ). So does this mean my metabolism is finally working? Or is this wishful thinking on my part? Plus I 'm wondering if I'm doing everything right( ex: eating extra cals / when exercising) Any input would be great thanks:)

im not really sure if this applies, but i know for me the more i eat the more i want to eat
like i guess its more difficult for me to stop once I'm eating than it would be to not eat at all0 -
Is it close to TOM? I feel I am much hungrier around then.0

What works for some may not work for you. I found that I actually had to increase my calories to lose weight, especially on days when I did some substancial exercise.
Play around with it a bit, you will need to find your perfect "sweet spot" of calories Vs. exercise.
Good luck!0 -
When I started eating meals more frequently, I found myself getting hungrier more often. Hunger is just your body's indicator that it is time to refuel.0

You need to eat back most if not all of your exercise calories - this will help you lose weight -if you don't, especially if you are doing hardcore workouts, you will go into starvation mode. Also, on days that I have crazy workouts, or it's close to that time of the month, I am super hungry and can't get enough to eat - thank goodness for those exercise calories!0

I don't really know what to say. I think that it's a tigger that gets activated when we start eating. It's much easier to not eat at all than stop eating. I am constantly hungry these days. I could eat an elephant but I choose to eat very clean food.0

Without seeing your diary, I don't know what you are eating, but I notice that if I eat simple carbs, I am always hungry. If I eat more almonds and veggies and whole grains, I am usually full of far fewer calories. Hope that helps.0

Thanks so much for all the great input. I need all the help I can get.( I've been stuck at my current weight 135 (I'm short) for months! And I need something to jump start my metabolism. All the advice is wonderful Thanks0

I have to eat every 3-4h. The combination of chicken breast meat, tomatoes, wholegrain bread keeps me full for the longest.
But if I eat corn, I go crazy after 2h.0 -
This has always been the case for me. When I first increased my calories, the hunger was almost unbearable, but now I eat often enough (6 times a day) before I get too hungry. It is definitely a sign your metabolism/hormones are kicking in properly - keep going and your body will get used to it. Just make sure you're eating clean, healthy food for all those calories and meeting your daily goals for protein and fat (meaning eating enough of both of them). I'm currently netting 1740 to lose .5 lb a week (eating about 2000-2700 a day depending on how much I run) and that is really working for me - though I'm 5'8" and have about 10 pounds to go. It's still an adjustment for me, considering I used to be 30 pounds overweight usually sticking to 1200 calories or less. I also had horrible skin, no energy, and got sick all the time. Now I feel HEALTHY and it's the best thing ever. Keep eating0

It's not just the number of the calories, but the quality of the calories. Nutrient dense foods (fruits, vegetables, milk, nuts, beans, etc will fill you way more than calories from candy. Take a look at how dense the foods you eat are, maybe you can improve there?0

I think I eat pretty well ( I'm sure I could improve in some areas) I typically eat oatmeal (organic & greek yogurt for breakfast, Lunch is a salad w/ griiled chicken, 1/2 c. cheese, Rasp.Ving. dressing and some peanuts. Dinner Chicken , turkey, or cod/ shrimp w/ 2c. -3c. green veggies, snacks are greek yogurt, luna bars, strawberries, oranges, grapes, and nuts. I use stevia & creamer( a must for me) in my coffee and that's my typical diet . Any suggestion to improve or change would be Awesome0
