    Bread - homemade.

    Cheese - I don't know, I'm vegan

Yogurt - I've heard great things about SoDelicious Coconut Yougurt, but have never had it

Soymilk - I prefer rice or almond over soy, both of which are easy to make yourself.

Everyone has their own opinions, but I love the Sara Lee 45 calorie and delightful whole wheat bread and the Weight Watchers shredded fiesta cheese and Frigo string cheeses. My husband loves the Silk soymilk, but I can't stop drinking plain milk!

I never thought of making them myself. Got a link to recipes for that?

Bread: I like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods breads. Whole grain is the best. I also like the Thomas' but the sodium is a bit high.

Cheese: Not so sure there is a best brand, but feta and goat cheese good; high in protein and lower in fat. I also like Brazillian Queso de' Minas.

    Yogurt: Chobani tops the list.

I hate soy milk. Organic 2% it is fo me.

    Opinions on Soymilk??

Bread - Arnold's Bakery - Light Sliced 100% Whole Wheat (40 cals per slice!)
Cheese - I use Kraft Fat Free American Cheese slices. For snacking I like the Mini Baby Bel Cheese Rounds and for spreads I use the skinny cow wedges
Yogurt - I would do a greek yogurt so I normally do either Fage Total 0% with fresh fruit or granola. Sometimes for a snack at work I'll grab Dannon Light & Fit (comes in lots of flavors). Other greek yogurts I've had are Chobani and Oikos and Yoplait Greek. All good in my opinion.

Opinions on Soymilk - Some people say its bad but not backed by any research and honestly I've heard arguments that everything that we put in our bodies is bad to some degree or another so I still have it sometimes (until someone convinces me otherwise). I like the Silk Chocolate Light Soymilk. I only get chocolate soymilk because for any original flavor milk I use regular organic skim milk. I don't see anything wrong with regular dairy so I stick to cow's milk. I actually lost more weight when I started drinking milk again so I guess my body likes dairy. For some it doesn't work that way I guess.

    Depends what your goals are!

Bread- go with whole wheat not white
Cheese- id say 2% cheese, less fat but same amount of protein
Yogurt- if you want help with bowel movements look for the brand with the most acidophilus. If you want protein go with greek Yogurt. Check the sugar content on them though. Some have an insane amount of it.

I tend to stay away from soy. Almond, rice, and coconut milk are pretty tastey but, they all have different qualities in them. Again look at the nutrition facts on them.

In short compare nutrition facts to what you want. Low calorie, high fiber, low carb, high protein, low sugar pretty much whatever you're looking for in your diet. Everybody is going to tell you their opinion, go with what you want.

For the first 3: my home made is better than any brand :)

Soy milk, I usually go with whatever is affordable. Though i do prefer almond milk and rice milk, soy contains some questionable things that I don't want to eat too often (phytoestrogens).
  • Thanks everyone!! I'm learning to be a label reader, execpt i'm not yet confident with what I'm going for yet!!
