I just joined last week and am hoping to lose 20 lbs (10 of it by Christmas). I am keeping track of what I eat (trying to eat 1200 calories), going to the gym 4-5 days per week doing 45-50 minutes of cardio (elliptical and treadmill) and strength training with free weights and machines. I just ordered the 30 day shred online and am excited to get started! Bad news is now I have to weigh myself and do measurements (I may end up wanting to lose more then 20 after I see the scale).

You'll enjoy this site. Browse around and look at exercise database, food database, community. You'll have a great time watching the success of others and you'll get inspired. Above all: make the calories count, eat healthy.

Good for you! This place is so helpful, especially when you have a lot of friends on here. Feel free to add me if you'd like, and good luck!

Keeping it to 1200 calories AND working out could kick your body into starvation mode; a lot of folks eat back 1/2 their exercise calories to avoid that.

Do not forget the importance of drinking water -- the first five pounds can come off quite quickly if you just keep yourself hydrated.
  • I eat my exercise calories and it has made all the difference in the world. I had my resting metoboic rate tested and used that number for determining how many calories I should eat each day to lose 1 lb a week. Then if i exercise, I eat them and it is working!

The water thing is huge as well. I've read to take your body weight divide in half and that is how much you need BEFORE you workout. Add a glass of water for each hour you workout!

Good luck and welcome! This site is great with fabulous support and great info in the communities. Take what you like and leave the rest!
