Out of control

I have been fairly healthy for most of my life. I became very involved with my fitness and nutrition after the birth of my first son when I was 20years old. The weight came off easily and I lost my own baby fat as well! I maintained my weight most of my adult life with a dip in pounds during a divorce and an extra five battle here and there. I had a baby 2 years ago and have been struggling with the last 20 pounds. I get down to ten and feel great and then lose control again. I typically work out regularly and at least platau during binge/off diet times. Lately I have not been working out as much and have gained almost ten pounds!! I am freaking out. I know a lot of it is probably water from sodium take out and wine but I need to get a grip. Why is it so hard to stay on track when I lived that way for so long? I am quite distressed.....any advice on how to stay on track?

I know it sounds cliche, but I just take things 1 day at a time, and set small goals that will eventually reach my final goal. If I slip up, I move on and forward; I don't look back with regret and shame anymore... I stay happy with who I am now, not who I was, or who I "want to be".0

I completely understand your pain and I'm in the same boat you are. I have been off MFP and off the fitness/diet charts for a few months now, and boy is it showing! I think I have gained about 10-15 pounds but I'm affraid to get on the scale and see it in writing. I'm trying to get motivated by looking at the boards and seeing success stories. So far it's helped. I'm really making a point to cook at home and make good food so I don't go buy what's easy, and as the previous poster said, I'm taking it one day at a time. I hear baby steps are the way to go The upside for both of us is once we get in the swing of things it should be easy...at least that's whats what I'm hoping!!0

I think your body is different after each child. I had a lot more trouble getting fit after my third than I did with the first two. The only thing I can tell you is to make yourself log on every day no matter what and keep yourself accountable. You don't have to give up everything and kill yourself exercising. Make little goals for yourself. change on little habbit at a time or start a healthy one. If you're not getting any exercise make a goal of walking one day a week. Once you've got the hang of it try for two. If you think wine is a problem have one glass instead of two. Making small goals that are easy to acheive helps to short circut the panic mode because you can celebrate little victories that are helping you get to the big ones.0

Thanks for the support!! I've done much better this past month and even though I am where I was last year at this time- I was just as happy last year to be at this point and feel so much better! I dropped the ten lbs that was just unacceptable by really focusing on my calories but still allowing for enjoyment. (Less pasta equals a second glass of wine! ;-) I also upped my water intake to better match how hard I work out. I feel less bloated. I am feeling more confident that this time I will continue and lose the final ten pounds for me to feel my best! :flowerforyou:0
