I was wondering if anyone taking these wanted to join me in a secret Facebook support group?

Are you making a secret group because you're ashamed or know it's not a smart decision and just don't want to put up with people telling you so?

I'm making it because some people always feel the need to be mean, even though It's been a hard decision to get here, even though I'd rather be more 'perfect' and not need the tablets to get over my overeating, even though I KNOW what healthy eating is but I need the fear of the side effects to kick start my journey.

I don't think I've been mean or offensive here and I'd like to ask (beg) for the same consideration really.

I dont blame you for wanting that consideration
my doc prescibed it for me but I cant take it now due to interactions with other meds

all I ask of you is to do it through your doctor so you get the right advice (at least go to the doc in the first instance)

and good luck I hope it works really well for you

    Thanks :)

I've been taking it a few weeks. It's going well and I've had no side effects because I've been good. I just know I like some support but you cannot get that here. I love this site for everything else but people just can't hold their tongues when it comes to this topic!

I'm sticking to a low fat diet and getting in plenty of exercise. If you stick to the rules then you don't get the side effects. My diet now is much healthier then it has ever been but people here will never congratulate me on that all the time they know I am taking these pills.

To me, they are a consequence to an action. A punishment if I stray - not a quick fix as I feel I AM working hard or my healthier lifestyle. I know that eating bad will effect me but the evidence isn't so immediate so I guess I'm the 'worry about it later' kind. I can't ta that attitude with these....well I could, but, no - I don't fancy that!

Just wanted to say good luck. I tried xenical about 4 or 5 years ago now, I am useless at remembering tablets though so I was no good for it.. not the other way around you notice. lol Whatever tool keeps you on track has to be a good thing. Why not have a thread on here rather than a hidden support page on FB? you'll find much more support on MFP I'm sure. This is a great tool etc for tracking your calories etc and lots of support / friends to be had. personally I only go on FB these days to keep in touch with friends from my past and uni mates. Weight loss buddies are all here.

Good luck with your journey. Hope you stick around. :)

Hi there, I understand where you're coming from I tried Xenical a few years ago and it was an awful experience for me, while I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I can understand why you would turn to it and I hope it works in a much better way for you than it did for me.

:) Thanks for your reply :)

I don't think a thread here would work as people just aren't supportive of it. But the people who shout the loudest seem to know the least lol!

I guess I just thought a fb group would be a good way of connecting.

If people are interested in joining, add me as a friend here and we'll go from there - you don't have to reply here.

Perhaps there are already support groups for it out there? Just a thought. I get your intentions now if you're getting shouted down on here thats not nice no matter the reason or the intentions behind the shouting.

I don't find that to be true at all. And no one's shouting at you.

While I personally don't think you need this drug, and it sounds like you don't think you need it either, that's not what's important. What's important is that you're happy and healthy. If you're on your way to doing that, whether it involves unnecessary medication or not, then more power to you. I will urge you not to create secret groups or keep your methods hidden. You may have to put up with hearing some logical arguments against your choices, but consider being proud of your approach while maintaining an open mind. It's much easier to rely on your network of people, no matter how unsupportive or skeptical, when they know what you're going through.

I will say this: I hope you stop taking the drug and realize you're stronger and more competent than you think you are. Until that time, be healthy. ::huggz::

My Doctor prescribed me these tablets a few years ago but they didn't make any difference at all. They work with your fat intake. I eat a natrual lowish fat diet anyway. It is not only the fats in your diet that make you fat. It's all about balance. I have had more success controlling my food input and increasing my activity levels using sites like MFP and Weight loss resources which is a site with the same principles only it's a paying site. I used to weigh over 300 pounds and now I'm down 189 pounds simply by following these principles. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take them.
