Hi,

I run for 20 minutes a day and then walk for about 45 minutes. I have been carefully monitroing what I eat, and have not yet lost weight or inches for over 3 weeks now. Can some of you share exercise tips with me? Anything that has worked for you

thanks
LD

I have lost nearly 20lbs since August by walking for an hour every day and doing a zumba dvd nearly every day! Just starting 30 day shred which every one raves about on here! Lots of people have lost loads of inches doing it!

    Good luck x

How many calories are you eating, and then how many are you actually netting after exercise? It's possible you're not eating enough to lose.
  • Are you actually using the food diary? Are you being honest when you log your food? How many calories are you eating? How many calories are you burning?

Are you measuring your food? Sometimes what you think is about 1/2 a cup will be almost a cup. Eat back all or almost all of your exercise calories.

Are you on any medication that could make it dificult to lose weight or makes you retain water?

If there are no medical issues and you are exact in your calorie intakes, then you will lose if you burn more than you consume. Give it time. It won't happen over night.

How much are you netting? Also, try changing up your workouts a bit. I find the more I vary my workouts, the better results.

strength training might work better for you. you gain a little weight in the beginning, but the inches come off much much faster!
  • My inclination is to give classic advice: Three weeks is not long. Are you overstating the calories you are buring? Understating the calories that you are consuming? Change your exercise pattern. You may be adding muscle. You do not add muscle in three weeks. Then, the core issue on this site - you Should - no - Should NOT eat back your exercise calories......

So, stepping back from this what is clear to me is that there is significant variation with regards to what will work for any given individual. Me? I gain weight on 1200 net calories if my carb intake is "on target". To lose, I need to cut carbs (even good/complex ones). My diet buddy does not have this issue, but seems to respond to fat intake.

Make changes, keep recording and find what works for you. Keep reading the message boards for ideas and support. Good luck.

    I believe you have several things working against you;
--Your age(it gets really hard just to stay in the same place)
--That's more of a "light maintenance" level of exercise than a fat burning level of exercise.
--you may or may not be logging calories correctly

    Good Luck.
I am not an expert, but you can friend me if you want.

Don't be discouraged, and don't give up. Increasing your level of activity and watching what you eat has already increasing your fitness level and improved your health... which is really the ultimate goal. Losing weight is a secondary bonus. Dependant upon factors like your age for instance, losing weight may not be as easy as it used to be....I know this only too well .. I have the same problem. Shredding a few pounds, when need be, was no where near as difficult when I was in my 20's or 30's .. Now that I'm in my 50's .. It is not so easy.

Don't give up .. as long as you are taking in enough calories to withstand the added exercise you are doing, your brain will start to release those stubborn pounds .. slowly but surely. It's the brain that you have to convince that you don't need to resort to what's called a "starvation mode'. It controls your metabolism .. and THAT's the culprit that controls your weight.
