Just finished week 1 this am. Looking forward to week 2. I'm ready for more but not giving in and staying on track so I don't get discouraged!

W2D1 completed....34:08 minutes total and 252 cals burned...my path is about 3 miles so my time should get better and better, right?

    W2D2 done deal....31:45 min, 236 cals

    Thoughts for the day:
    1) I worked on stride, landing light and slidding foot back...kind of like scrapping the pavement
    2) Border Collie is very ill mannered on the leash
    3) There's a difference between finishing strong and finishing. I will take one week at a time and repeat as necessary

Hope everyone has happy feet this week!!!

Russell...saw your post about stretching...I think your supposed to stretch post exercise after the muscles are warmed up. I hope that you loosen up soon
  • I dread getting out of bed early in the morning to exercise. However, I can't tell you how motivating this is and that I have a race in place. Going to run a 5k on November 20. On track to be able to do this!

Hello everyone! I'm excited to be joining you all! I'm a couple of days behind as I won't be completing week 1 until Sunday. What amazed me about D1 and D2 is that as long as I run slowly (let's face it, I can really only run slow) it seems to be easier on the knee I twisted a few weeks back than trying to walk super fast. It's kind of nice being a day or so behind everyone, I can watch all of you survive what's coming! Looks like you're all doing a great job of this so far.

I decided last week to make Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday my C25K days, as it fits in nicely with my other exercise activities and leaves two days rest (from running) before the following week's step-up. The only problem with that is that tomorrow mid-morning I have to go support the family in their fun runs (kids) and half marathons (adults). I do want to stick with my routine though, as I think it'll help me get to the end as easily as possible, so I'm going to have to get up at about 5:30 to do so! I'm quite looking forward to it however, so I'm sure I'll be up with the lark, ready to go.

    Bis bald!

p.s. nisijam5 - thanks for the tip on stretching. I've actually downloaded a couple runners stretching apps which advise before and after, so I think I need even more time tomorrow morning

Just finished week 2, day 1! It was pretty difficult, but I managed it and even switched up to a 5k route.. made my cool down a lot longer, but I am hoping that will be the route I can do by week 9 (or later...)

    W2 D3 check!!...33:10, 241 cals burned...

Thoughts for the day....Had trouble with one run interval uphill, super hot weather and feeling dehydrated as I ran...I'm thinking I will extend it for one extra day at this level...I'd rather finish the week strong, then just finish

Alirae...I think a 5K is perfect for motivation
TexasNana...I'm a W5 drop out, so try to finish with confidence
Russell...I would never get up at 5:30 to work out...probably is the reason, I'm in the shape I'm in now
    Yvon...keep up the good fight
Pete...I have a 5K course mapped out and hoping to get further and further each week

Well, good day all...I'm off to work

Week 2 Day 1 complete, with no problems during the run/walk and no following day recurrence of the stiff quads thanks to the stretching advice I was given. For a fuller rundown on my day, please see my journal at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/russelljclarke

    Looking forward to Tuesday!

W2D1 complete! It was be no means easy but I was able to finish with no modification. I ran with a friend this morning in her neighborhood. Her development has a few hills which mine does not. Today unlike last week I was glad to finish no post run energy burst. Congrats to all who have completed day 1 and good luck to all who have yet to begin. :flowerforyou:

W2D1 completed last night after work. Didn't know if I would have the energy, but ran my subdivision (with lots of hills) and felt really good when I was done. On the days I work, I have to get up at 4:30 to do my 30 DS, get myself and my son ready to be off, work 12 hours, come home and check homework, put everyone to bed , then get my run in. Some days it works and some days it doesn't. I don't beat myself up about it, I just look forward to the next day! Everybody needs to remember just find the schedule that works for you. Keep up the good work!!
  • I'll do day 2 of week 2 tonight. Didn't help that I didn't read the instructions correctly the first day and did 1.5 min. running and 1 min. walking...I about died and thought something wasn't right :) I'm anxious to see how I do tonight doing it correctly :).

I "cheated" and skipped my Wk1 Day 3 and did WK2D1 yesterday. There will be no more cheating like that, but I'm glad I did it this once. It felt great! Of course, now I can't wait and make sure that none of you collapse before attempting it myself. :) Looks like everybody has been successful. Way to go!
  • Is this board open to anyone?? I did w2d1 today. I felt pretty good, it wasn't easy, but I did it! This is a far cry from last week when I had to walk 4 of the running intervals on my first day. I feel very proud!

Good job, beagles, I imagine this is for anyone in week 2!

I just completed week 2 day 2 myself and feel great!
  • Yeah this group is open to anyone as long as they are around week 2 of the challenge!

I went for my first week 2 run yesterday (while it was raining) and had to run against the wind which made it a bit more challenging. I always count my runs so I know how many I have left and my phone bleeped to tell me it was the end when I thought I had 2 more runs left which was a pleasant surprise.

I'm glad everyone's enjoying it, I'm getting on OK with it. I'm not loving it but I think I'm trying to run too fast because I'm with my boyfriend (who is really fit and plays football ALL the time so he can run forever). So I think I'll try to slow it down for my next run.

Looking forward to week 2 day 2 tomorrow though. Hopefully it's not raining here but I'm sure it will be.
  • I do the app, but I also downoaded the podcast. I remember the guy on the podcast saying that when you're running you should not feel like you're going to die.... you should be able to talk. So yesterday, while running, I was talking to myself.... I just kept on repeating "You should be able to talk, you should be able to talk". I think that helped because it kept me from overextending myself. LOL... it makes me giggle.

One day last week it was really windy and running against the wind was really hard! That, and even a slight incline are killer!
  • My 13yo daughter & I are doing C25K program together.
    We successfully completed Week One.

    Now onto week 2.

    THE RULES:

    Day 1:

    -Brisk walk 5 mins
-Alternate 90 seconds of jogging and 2 minutes of walking

We started on Monday, Oct. 10 th and did fine.
I could really tell the difference between just 60 sec.of week one to 90 sec. this week. Ack!
I pushed it though and ended up feeling good and successful for getting it done.
I also found that the 2min recovery walk was ok but I was recovered by one min.
    That was a nice surprise.
I made myself take that extra minute though. Trying to go by the rules and not over-push myself.
Took a bike ride through town today to map out a bigger loop for the rest of this week.
I will do W2-Day2 tomorrow (Wed.) and W2-Day3 on Friday.

Just wanted to say I really like reading how well you all are doing. You are helping to keep my motivated.

    Keep pushing forward.
  • What songs are on your play list? I have been training on the treadmill before the kids get up so I have the TV on. Hoping to get out this weekend! My race is in November so I need to get used to the weather outside.

Finished W2D2 today. It felt more difficult than W2D1 to me. Did that happen to anyone else, or am I just strange? Maybe the difference between 2 days/1 day rest. But I still felt good by the end of the cool down so I'm happy with it. What is everyone doing to stretch beforehand? Is it the same as the after? I looked online and found conflicting advice for before. I've decided to just keep going until I'm finished without worrying about being close to home when I'm done. A bit longer cool down won't hurt and it's easier to tell if I'm actually going further than before.
Russell - I read your blog today and can definitely empathize with your concern over losing the "electronic arm". I decided to upgrade my phone via my computer right before my "run" and almost lost all of my downloaded apps including the one for C25K and my music too. Temporary panic/annoyance set in, but then I hooked up the whole mess again and everything magically re-appeared! Whew!
    And welcome to Beagles!
fit4travel - I definitely do better when I go slow.

Finished Week 2 Day 2 yesterday morning with no problem during the actual run. Again with the post run fatigue, though I drank water and stretched before and after, as advised. Anyone have any more tips about this?

I just sing along to the tunes on my iPhone! I'm sure people must think I'm completely Upminster, but who cares :)
  • Whew, w2d2 done and DONE!!! I am finding myself not concentrating so much on the actual time running. When i was running a minute I was almost counting the seconds it in my head. Now, i just think "I'm going to reach that tree, rock, whatever, at the end of my 90 seconds". To my surprise i was running past all of the mental landmarks... maybe my speed is increasing.

BTW, it has been very nice and sunny around here (very unusual for Chicago in October) so i can see my shadow while running, and let me just say, I LOVE IT!!! Please keep in mind that I am not a runner, I never have been, and I'm not even sure this program will make me into one. I was the kid who in high school walked the mile, never ran. So to see my shadow running gives me a very good feeling.

Good luck with week 2 everyone!!! =0)

I did find it a tad more difficult on my second day as well. I think you're onto something with the amount of rest days in between. But we did it, KUDOS TO US!!! Great job! =)
