i feel like sometimes i just eat food because i have calories left. NOT because i am hungry. before starting this site, i would eat when i was hungry. now i eat more but less calorie filled and healthier foods. but sometimes i eat just because i have alot of calories left. i reason that it is because i do not want to create a bigger deficit but if you are not hungry why eat. does anyone else do this?

  • I only eat when I am hungry.
  • Yes I do it too, but if you don't eat at least 1200 calories or very close to it your putting your body into starvation mood. So that my body doesn't go that route I do eat just because I have calories left. It's working for me, I've been in here for 6 weeks today and I've lost 12lbs.
  • Eat things higher in calories. Cook with olive oil and add avocado

When eating healthy not everything has to be low cal :]

Also eating just when you are hungry isnt the best idea. You body is not the best indicator. You still need those nutrients to fuel yourself and help protect against muscle breakdown

    Yes, sometimes.
I have been aiming to get into the habit of regularly eating a good amount of healthy food.
I have found that I am better to eat more in the morning and then I don't binge in the afternoon.
I also eat most of my exercise calories.
When you put all of these things together it sometimes means that I will have an afternoon snack before I feel really hungry.

For me this works because it means that I eat healthy food and don't snack on junky stuff (usually). I have my meals and snacks for each day pretty well planned so I don't just go on eating, mostly I'll eat the snacks I've planned then stop until the next meal.
This is a very positive change from my old habit of grazing on junk until it was gone.... just because it was there.

Yup... happens to me too. I have calories left over and I'm not hungry so I don't eat, but then the very next day I may go over in calories but it all balances out throughout the week.

If I only ate when I was hungry, I would be eating waaaaay less calories than my body needs. Exercise makes me lose my appetite, stress makes me lose my appetite, and I am so busy I sometimes forget to eat. There are many days that I don't get around to eating breakfast til 1 or 2 pm. I have to keep myself on a schedule and I usually try to eat smaller meals all day long whether I'm hungry or not. Don't get me wrong, I have some hungrier, days but if I don't make myself eat my calories I would be in trouble with my weekly deficits. You can keep the choices healthy when you aren't hungry though...
