Cant even keep granola bars in the house

Geez, I plan on eating one with breakfast and get home only to eat half the box. I'm at a point right now where I can finish the other half or stop and deal with the fact that I consumed a 900 cal meal.

I am still under in cals for the day but... Does eating more than a certain amount of calories in one meal cause weight gain?

Ugh, and am I the only one that can't even keep something MILDLY sweet in the house?

No... you're not the only one. :( (Although I have found that it does get easier after a while and I think I'm at a point now where my willpower has grown stronger through sheer habit.)

From what I have read on the subject, it is definitely better to eat smaller meals and more of them, because what your body can't use at the time, it just stores it as fat. Your body doesn't care much whether you ate only 900 calories for the whole day... if you ate them all at once, it can only use so much at one time, and it has to put those calories away to use later.

All that to say, however... I still think you're better off than you were before because you DID stop halfway through and deal with the fact that you ate a 900 calorie meal. I don't know about you, but the old me would have just decided it was too late to do anything about it for the day, and just finished off the box, even if it made me sick. Ugh. :( So... rejoice in even small victories like that, I would say, and decide that you will do better tomorrow. And if you have to avoid keeping even granola bars in the house, then just don't keep them around for a while. Like I said... it WILL get easier!

I can't keep a jar of PB...or else I'll eat the whole thing!
  • It's so true, there are certain foods that I just cannot stop once I start.

I'm the same with savoury things chips, cheese, cashews anything cheesy or salty basically its been quite hard because i have a family who can moderate themselves quite easily and deserve to be able to have access to these basics but for me i find it sooo hard to stay clear

what i have done that works sometimes is when i go to grab some i make myself drink a whole glass of water first sometimes that stops me craving it so bad and i can think rationally again and focus back on my goals

another thing i do is make it really annoying to get to like i put it on the highest shelf right up the back behind a bunch of stuff ,, it helps stop it becoming such a easily accesible impulse because ive found allot of time i just walk past grab and eat this gives me time to think and decide wether i really want to go to all that effort for something i really shouldnt be having anyway

hope that helped a bit its not fool proof but i find it helps a bit :)

Having 3 little boys, "snacks" are a must in my house..I just ignore them. (no, this didnt' happen over night).
  • I think as long as you are under the calorie total for the day, you are fine. That being said, portion control IS important. Hang in there, tomorrow is another day.

eating a large amount of your calories all at once will not effect weight. if you go way over your goal by the end of the day, that will effect it, though.

it is really tough for me to eat sweets in small amounts. in fact, I am in a bit of a food coma right now after downing a pint of ice cream
