Ok - So I'm out of shape and 47 years old. I have been an inconsistent about my exercise. Would I be crazy to try the 30 day shred? Seems like people are so successful that I'm tempted - but I wonder if I'll hurt myself and then not exercise at all??

You can do it! You may not be able to do every bit of it when you first start but the important thing is to try and keep trying until you get it. I am very much overweight and I pushed myself to start P90X and I am starting week 5 tomorrow. Don't listen to that little voice that tells you that you can't because it is a lie! Good luck!0

Hi. Am 42, almost 42 and out of shape, lol. I tried to do the Shred 4 months ago when I first started MFP and I was not very successful at it. I have poor knees and the jumping jacks were not very fun so I stopped. Now, am 30 pounds lighter and I am trying it again. I started yesterday and while it's not easy, I am doing better. I say give it a try and see. If you need to you can modify some of the moves. You can even stay on level untill you are comforable to move to level 2. Hope this helps0

51 and very out of shape (or was, getting better). When i first did it I was over 100kg (220lbs). Do the modified level and then change some. I couldn't do all the jumping at first so would march on the spot or walk up and down the room. Do it, you will love it and feel the difference. Change what ever you need to to suit you, and do take rest days. This is not a competition. You are doing it for you. I have done it twice now and took a lot longer then 30 days each time to do it. But I felt so good.0

YES, you can do it. I did it when I was first starting out on my journey and was very out of shape (41 years old and had a baby less than a year ago). I did what I could (I stayted on level 1 the whole 30 days) and gave it everything I had! It was a killer but it was worth it! I lost so many inches during that month! After I finished I was more flexible and felt great! I want to do a second round but am committed to my training and walking for the moment. Go for it!!0

what is the 30 day shred?
Hi! The 30 day shred is a workout DVD by Jillian Michaels the trainer from "The Biggest Loser" on television. You are supposed to do ten days at level 1, ten at level 2 and ten days at level 3 but you can modify it and do level 1 for 30 days or however you feel is best for you. I think the DVD is a few years old because I was able to buy it on eBay for five dollars. I am not sure what it is brand new but I am sure it's probably less than 20 dollars.
To Original Poster - I am 43 and will be 44 in March. I started out 50 pounds overweight and doing the shred at level 1 only for the last 2 weeks along with walking outside sometimes pushing a heavy stroller and I have lost 11 pounds so far.
The 30DS has modifications for beginners. (Thanks Goodness!!) and you can do those at first. When I started it, I thought it was going to be too hard because it's circuit training as you do a minute of cardio, a minute of strength, and a minute of core work( I think it's called.) and these are alternated I have noticed each time I do it it gets a little easier for me. Don't judge how you feel on day 1 to 4. Stick with it at least 10 days before you decide if you are going to complete it or not. I have a feeling you will want to do it. People that weigh 100 pounds more than I do can do this so according to Jillian I have no excuse and you know what?.. She's right! Once you know the dvd well you might want to try this tip that helps me.. I am not a huge fan of the music and I do better when I have my favorite music on while exercising so I turn down the volume and do the 30DS workout to my own music. It has really helped. Once you get to the point where you know all the words by heart you can do this. Hope it helps someone.
If you decide to do it I will be sure to support you on your journey. I will send you a friend request. Good luck on your journey and with your start of a new lifestyle!0 -
Thanks for all of the encouragement! I ordered the DVD and will start when I get it. ($10 for the DVD including shipping!). I'll try to get my butt to the gym tomorrow while I wait to start.0
