Hey all,

I really wanted to start the wonderful 30 day shred today , and in February I snapped a ligament in my left ankle and tore the other two. Is it possible to start it today or not? It doesn't hurt too much and only hurts a lot when I jog. Would I be okay if I just did Anita's version?

  • That may be tough...the cardio portion consists of faux-jump roping, jumping jacks, bouncing "butt" kicks, etc. Can your ankle handle short bursts of impact? I'm still not sure if you should risk it... going to have to say consult your doctor :(
  • Remember, pain (not to be confused with discomfort) is your body's way of saying "Hey, something's wrong!"
  • I would consult doctor, or physical therapist. You don't want to re-injure it and be back at square one again!

If it is only uncomfortable but doesnt hurt I would make try it out but with a brace. When you tear ligamints you need to support them and they are susceptible to re injury for up to a year I think a brace is important
  • I wouldnt risk it without consulting a doctor. Especially if it hurts a lot when you jog, theres a lot of jumping about and 'butt kicks' which arnt too disimiliar to jogging anyway.x

Only your doc can tell you how much stress you can put on that ankle.

You should ask your orthopedist. I would, however, that if you are cleared to jog, you'd be cleared for 30DS.

That being said, I'll mention that I added 30DS to my regular daily workout (running) several months ago and ended up with a knee injury that put me off exercise for a month. I'm back on 30DS now, but I running is still my primary cardio, and I have a 5K coming up this weekend. I cannot risk an injury again. I found that the jumping jacks and the butt kicks are the hardest impact on my knees. I modify both. With a bad ankle, you might want to consider modifying those as well as the jump rope.

    Good luck!
