I wish that I was in better shape so I could take the course. I go four nights a week to watch my 8 year old grandaughter. She is a blue belt in TaeKwonDo.[hand and foot Karate] Tonight she goes for her next test to move to the rank of blue senior. I guess you can tell I am one proud nana.0

What style do you study? I study Taekwondo Taeguk style - I am currently going for my 2nd degree black belt.
Love martial arts !! and 45 minutes of vigorous Taekwondo burns like 700 calories !

Its great to see that there are other people into martial arts on here!
I'm an instructor in traditional ju jitsu, attempting my second degree black belt grading in november.
Also a newbiw to brazillian jiu jitsu.
Hoping to find a good Mauy thai class, or Kempo class near me to get stuck in there too.
Martial arts are such good stress relievers..though they very quickly become an obsession lol, with me anyways.0 -
I am a Tai Chi instructor.0

I'm a 2nd degree black belt in Uechi-ryu kerate, which is an Okinawan style with roots in Kung-fu. I think I'll be testing for third degree next Spring.0

I am nearing my black belt with my academy. We train in Tai chi chuan, Baguazhang, Xingyiquan, and Shaolin. My primary focus
though is Seven Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu (Qi Xing Tang Lang Quan). I am also a beginner capoeirista. I do plan on taking
Brazilian Ju Jitsu sometime in the future! I hold a black belt in JuJitsu from my high school days.0 -

I study American Kenpo here myself! Been at it for some time, hold a third degree brown, testing for 2nd degree in a few months if things continue as they have been.
I also studied Danzan-Ryu Ju-jitsu when I was younger.0 -
I use to study Tae Kwon Do but had to move away for work and when i got back the dojang had closed down and moved 40 miles away and i can't afford the gas
was also in Haidong Gumdo for a little while but the instructor was such a self righteous prick i stopped going.0 -
I'm currently doing Brazilian Juijitsu. I dabble in Muay Thai and boxing. I also have my brown belt in Judo. I'm training pretty regularly in jujitsu, and I'd like to become active in Judo again-so I can compete for my black belt0

I am learning Shaolin Kung Fu.0
-
I am also studying Shaolin Kung Fu! I am currently a green belt but having to retrain after I quit for a year. I'm glad to be doing it again and this time keeping track of when and how often I practice through MFP! Not only is Shaolin COOL, if I practice an HR a day I can eat a lot more lol!0

I just recently found out , I might not be able to continue in Taekwondo , due to my knees... which is breaking my heart. Taekwondo is a lot of kicking and jumping.
I was suppose to test in July for my second degree black belt.. but I have postponed it till my knees get better.
Can anyone recommend a martial arts, that does not have negative repercussions on the knees ? Martial Arts is probably one of the most important things in my life, besides my children and husband.. I'm very sad to think I might not be able to continue it at all..

In my past life (you know, my 20's) I was a full contact fighter and fight trainer for 3 years. I loved it! Fighter workouts are some of the toughest because it requires strength, cardio endurance, and balance - so you always get a good workout.
I don't fight anymore (too old and fragile) but I do mix in some bag work and shadow boxing for light cardio work and balance. Under the right guidance fight training / martial arts is a great way to cross train and burn a ton of calories.0 -
I recently recieved my 2nd degree in Tang Soo Do but I have been haveing knee(s) trouble for a long while. Korean arts are tough on the knees because of the dynamic kicking. I still do TSD I have just changed my focus. I can still kick above my waist and demonstrate techniques to my students. I have focused more on my hyung and hapkido. Also i have lost some weight, been using my stationary bike which has helped. I have taken glucosimine in the past which helped also.0

I have been doing Rhee Tae Kwon Do for about 9 months.
I watched my kids doing it for a bout a year and decided one day that I should give it a go. I am currently a yellow belt green tip. My boys are blue belt brown tip. My husband is a blackbelt and training to be an instructor,
I really find it very helpful in releiving stress, it also is a great work out for me. I train twice a week for an hour,0 -
Absofrickinloutely!!
I've been in love with kickboxing these past two years. 45 mins a day, 6 days a week and fricking LOVING it!!
Krav Maga classes start soon, which will be very interesting, as I'm a 5'3" female and will be working with men and women who will most certainly be taller than me. lol
Glad to see there are others out there!0 -
I take Kajukenbo with my husband, who has been doing it for years and my son (6) is on his second year.0
-
I do Hapkido (Korean form of martial arts that is only for adults--I hear it is what the Korean Police do.) I have been doing it about three years. I am testing for red belt in April (black belt is the next belt after red! :-) My instructor also teaches taekwondo and I am considering starting that as well, to help with my hapkido agility. LOVE martial arts. I would love to check out Tai Chi and such. YAY MARTIAL ARTS! Killer calorie burner, too, LOL.0

Has anyone else tried Warrior X-Fit? http://warriorxfit.com/
It's "based on the workout regimens of Top Martial Artists", according to their site. Best thing of all -- it's completely free (though you'll need a resistance band for some exercises).
I first heard about it through my gym and I got hooked! It's based on Tabatas, except this is 6 rounds of 6, not 8. 20 minutes of PAIN!! Some of the exercises might look "easy", but anything done for 20 seconds at max intensity is a killer. They offer modifications for those who need them, so don't worry about not being able to do military pushups, etc.
I've been doing it three times a week for three months now at my gym, and I'm STILL sore. The pain never goes away! They've designed a different set of exercises for every day of the month, so it's always something different.0 -
I do Taekwondo (ITF) - fantastic workout and builds good lean muscle. Only a yellow tag at the moment.0

I train in HaganaH and Krav Maga, which are Israeli fighting systems.
Everyone here who trains should join the MFP Group "Martial Arts and Sports Fighting": http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/301-martial-arts-and-sport-fighting0 -
I have been training Krav Maga for self defense for about two years now. I can only squeeze 2 days a week right now. I love it, it's an awesome workout, (I can burn 1000 cals in an hour easy) Sparring is intense, and I learn a lot every time I go. I hope to test for level 3 in March, Here is where I train. www.detroitkravmaga.com0
