What is this exercise called

I've seen a handful of people doing it at the gym. They start lying down with a weight in one hand, and in a very slow and controlled motion, they stand up and raise the weight above their head. It is more than just standing up, though, it is very deliberate, where they go to sitting, then kneeling and god knows what else.
It looks like a good workout but google doesn't like paragraphs. I fail at internet searches
