I don't understand what is happening with my body if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear it!
So for the past month I have been working my but off at least 45min-1hr a day on either my elliptical
or strength training or whatever. I haven't lost anything, in fact I gained a couple pounds!
Last week i hurt my back and I haven't been able to work out.
It turns out I have a herniated disk in my back and I can't work out for at least 2 weeks if not more than that and only for a little bit at a time. Well since I've stopped working out and all i've been able to do is just sit on my bum and not move.... well I've lost 4 pounds!!!! It's great!!!
It just doesn't make any sense to me!! Any ideas on why when I worked out a ton that I didn't lost a thing?

I wish I could help, but it makes no sense to me either! There are so many people on here that I'm sure will be able to help you figure it out. Good luck!

The reason its doing that is you are turning fat into muscle now you will still lose inches just may not lose weight.

2 things to consider- were you eating your exercise cals when working out?

if yes- you may have been overestimating them and hence overeating

if no- you may have been eating too little, your body, trying to "save itself from starving" would have slowed it's metabolism to be able to save everything it could.

I was trying to eat my exercise cals for the most part but I almost never ate all of them.
There were a couple of times where I got off track in the past month for like an evening
but then i got right back on. Maybe that is what killed me?? However I wasn't all that great this past friday I went out to dinner... hmm... I don't know!!

What I'm really concerned about is that I can't work out!! I'm going to go try and get some slow walking in today. It's better than nothing. I do have to be careful because I can really hurt myself and then I won't be working out for longer than 2-4 weeks, it will be 2-4 months!!!!

It could also be the lack of glycogen weight in your body due to no working out.

I had no idea what that meant either, until I read this:

    http://primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/scale.htm

It's a great read. . .lots of stuff I never even thought about before.:flowerforyou:

when I worked out with a trainer I gained 1 pound in 4 weeks, but lost 4% total body fat.

She gave brief explanation of muscles swelling due to over work, and eventually it would subside.

I was totally happy with 4% body fat gone from my bod!!
