Actually, one of my MFP friends just added Cleaning, heavy, vigorous pace to her exercise today. I have no clue whether your body types are similar, but she burned about 109 calories doing her cleaning for 25 minutes. I can't tell you what she did as far as the cleaning, but I would imagine scrubbing floors/tubs would be the vigorous part. If you have to vacuum stairs, try using a wand, rather than the upright, and stair step as you're cleaning. Hope that helps. :)

There are other websites out there that will estimate how many calories you burn doing these things. Then you would just "quick add" the amount estimated. However, the type of housework you're doing matters and all tasks are not the same as far as calorie burn. I'd have to mop quite vigorously for over a half an hour for me to even think it's worth logging.

Logging each and every little thing you do is counter productive because you will (likely) end up over estimating calories burned but still eat what MFP says you can.
  • hi there. yes you can add housework!! go to the exercises tab and enter "cleaning." It'll give you 2 choices, either light or heavy cleaning. heavy cleaning is like when doing windows, cabinets and such, alot of heavy scrubbing. normal, everyday cleaning is considered light cleaning. happy cleaning!

when you click on your exercise tab, under cardio, click the database. There is actually a selection for cleaning (light effort and vigerous effort). It takes your current weight you have entered on here and you add you time and it give you a burn. I don't know how accurate it is, but it's something!
  • There is a way to add cleaning, but honestly I don't think I would. I know you are burning calories, but you really can't be sure how many unless you have a heart rate monitor that can track it, and then you could over eat. I clean around my house every day, so I don't add in my cleaning at all.
  • i dont necasseraly want to add cleaning per say more the decorating as i have single handly painted a bedroom in the last 3 days i am also a full time carer so wanted to add the cleaning in place of all the tooing and throwing i do all day after my partner as i'm positive that the type of chores i'm required to do won't be listed

hmmmm..... the housework one might cover for the painting you did (the vigerous one) or maybe even just general aerobic? Not sure about the rest of it though. Sorry!!!
