Help with the chip cravings

I am having horrible cravings for chips. its really starting to annoy me. Anyone know of something to help with the salty crunchie cravings??

    Go for a run.

    I have a serious problem with salty crunchy foods too, and the only thing that helps is to get away from it.

    make some tortilla chips in the oven, they are good and not as fat or unhealthy

    some healthier alternatives:

    a handful of almonds

    wholewheat tortilla chips w/homemade salsa

    wheat thins topped with low fat peanut butter

    baked sun chips

    sensible portion veggie straws

    I make my own chips out of kale...trust me, don't knock it til you try it. They're amazing!

    Slice a small potato (thinly) and place the slices (one layer) on a microwave safe plate that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Lightly salt the potato slices. Heat on high for about seven minutes. Remove from the microwave with a pot holder.

  • If you force yourself to stop eating the foods you love, sometimes people eat more and give in to even more bad foods. So just eat them in moderation. Go by serving sizes. and be sure to work out. It will help burn those chippys off haha

    Finding healthy alternatives is a great idea! I noticed carrots fulfill that crunch we get from chips. lol

    You can make your own "chips" out of whole wheat pita. Just split them in half, cut into wedges, and spray lightly with olive oil. Sprinkle a little parmesan if desired and broil.

    Another option (available at Costco) are the Garden Vegetable Crisps. 18 chips for 110 calories! SOOO yummy!!

    Oh, and this is probably not the place, but Pampered Chef just released a silicone microwave chip maker. It's not too pricey and makes FANTASTIC potato, sweet potato, or apple chips. You can reach out to a rep in your area, or if you don't have one, send me a message, I'm a rep.

    Soy crisps are crunchy and salty. They are like rice cakes but made from soy so you get protein with them and only 70 cal per serving.

    I agree, you can make your own tortilla chips and control the salt. just slice corn tortillas into quarters place on baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil sprinkle with coarse salt or sea salt and cracked pepper and bake at 350 until golden brown or the right crispy texture. they are yummy!
  • swap them out for baked varieties-
    OR my favorite- Special K Cracker Chips- Sour Cream and Onion Flavor _serving size 27 chips=110 cals.

    then count out the serving size (discipline/self-control) in a dish, put the bag away and don't go back for more...You can do this- I NEVER thought I could, but I've learned how to eat less.

    Eat some, and log the calories? Don't deny yourself anything, just have less of it and account for it!

    You could try something like a couple handfuls of salted mixed nuts. If it's the salty crunch you're craving that might help, and you'd be doing yourself a lot of good by giving your body a good source of protein, fiber, and heart-healthy fats. A slightly less healthy option might be the Terra brand of chips. They're a pretty good source of fiber and nutrition, just be sure to pay attention to the serving size and stick to that. Or popcorn (not microwave popcorn) with salt only. Hope these suggestions help you.

    eat a very large banana or apple first (that will fill your stomach) then eat a very small portion of chips for the taste, that way you trick your body into thinking you've eaten loads of chips but you have actually only eaten a few xx

    I saw Hungry Girl do that but it kinda weirded me out. Since you recommend it, I will have to try it.

    I have to agree with the almonds and pecans suggetion, they really helped me through the chip cravings.
  • It's not what you eat, it's how much you eat! Moderation is key here! Following the serving sizes, and let that be the goal for the day!

    For my salt and vinegar chip craving, I usually go for pop chips. If it's just a salty snack I'm looking for, I sometimes make kale chips. (You can buy them too, but they're much cheaper to make yourself.) However, I'm not a super huge fan of kale chips for some reason. Lately I've been eating seaweed snacks to help curb my salty snack craving.

    I got the microwave chip maker from Pampered Chef and love it!! I used half a potato last night to make a big plate of salt & vinegar potato chips (I used S&V popcorn seasoning from Target) for myself and the other half to make some salt & pepper chips for my husband. It's a little time consuming but in my opinion very worth it. You can season your chips however you'd like, and they are fat-free. You just have to count the calories for the potato.
