I am a nutritionist with 30 pounds to lose. 30 pounds that I have been fighting with for 10 years. I have 2 years to reach my fabulous at 50 goal and no time to waste!

I work in a world of culinary, travel and sedentary. Long hours, long trips and late nights. I have been working excercise into my regimen for about 2 years. It comes and goes (never goes completely). Food? I got this! After all I work in the world of food. I am educated in all of the science of weight loss but still I struggle.

This tool will help. I am determined to end this struggle once and for all. My kids are grown, (all but 1) there are no excuses. Steve Jobs said: Live your own life. I am. Enough said.

  • Hi Janet!
Just wanted to comment on your post because...I am only like a "week old" on this site and I too, have been trying to lose 20-30 pounds for the last decade!! However, during that time, I have really grown and recovered emotionally and mentally from really crazy stuff I used to do and think about. So grateful that I have peace today. HOWEVER, the scientific fact is that if I dont keep track of what I eat and stay aware and mindful...the pounds will pile on or stay on! ;) oh well, that is life lived in reality. So. That's why I joined this and it has been helping me tremendously!

Im on the road to becoming a Registered Dietitian so I hear you! I wanted to be a chef as well so...foodie of all sorts I say. All I have to say is that its not knowledge (like you said you know the science of weight loss) but being able to take each day as it comes and to stay in that day/moment! At least that is for me...to keep my food and my days/feelings in one piece called today. :)

Good luck...I LOVE this site and I am now counting/calculating my calories on a daily basis without the crazy dieting mind but knowing that i have had enough to eat at the end of the day (even if I feel like I want to eat more or wondering if I need to/can eat more), having it here after inputting my food honestly throughout the day keeps the guessing games out at bay!

Happy Friday, good luck on you becoming fabulously fit, one day at a time!

  • Best of luck to you! I think it's a struggle for all of us, for the rest of our lives, and our career choices have no say in the matter! :drinker:

@Kimiko: It is quite a life style in food! I am not an RD however I have a degree in Nutrition and work with high school students and managed kitchens all over the northeast. I am also in Grad School part time. I love my job so much! I get to help young girls with disordered eating and help be their nutritional best! Of course like most foodies, I love my wine too! I limit it to weekends, like tomorrow I am meeting my best friend at a winery. The challenge there is to offset the wine calories with extra exercise to compensate. I've changed my lifestyle over the past 20 years so I just need to keep going. People dont think I look creeping up on 50 and I like that! Maybe it's vain but If I look good, I feel good!

I am 5'7 so I get away with extra pounds easier than my sister at 5'4". We could weigh the same and Im in a tight 12 and she wears a 16. It's unfair for her but also has kept me in denial for years.

@Lady Lord, it is so true! Your "ticker" is very inspirational! thanks for taking the time to comment!
  • Great boundaries on the wine...I have begun to enjoy them but my limit is a glass due to not enough alcohol-dehydrogenase! LOL ;)
Need to build that baby up so that I can drink a little more but..definitely NOT addicted to alcohol but sugar is a toughie. Im doing some research currently on the effects of fructose on our metabolism and waistline...so interesting but grad school is tough. (especially doing it full time!)
Hope you're on track...had some cookies last night but committing to NO SUGAR just for today.... feels so much better at the end of the day and when I wake up.
    ;) Kimiko :flowerforyou:

I'm in Grad school too. Part time though. Still a challenge but I would rather be taking a class and studying than watching nothing on TV.

I did pretty well at the winery saturday, I excercised early in the day, stayed with small portions and we shared a Tapas style "meal" at the winery. It was light and filling and I never went over my goal. A little whole grain bread torn into nuggets, some roasted red peppers, a little goat cheese, olives and roasted asparagus. My friend has celiac and is vegan so we didnt even bother with meat. I weighed in on Friday -1.6. I wont check again until after the weekend I think. Small portions is it for me. Makes all the difference in the world. I was at one of my accounts today for lunch and had 4oz yogurt, 2 oz Tilapia (baked) and an apple. Dinner will be easy since I prepare my own. I will even be able to enjoy some popcorn or sugar free Hot Chocolate later tonight and still be within my goal. I just keep reminding myself that I don't need as much energy as long as I am not extremely active at work. This weekend I go hiking in the Green Mountains. Then I will make sure I portion up the complex carbs. I am with you on the sugar and fructose. I avoid it. Don't even get me started on HFCS! I feel bloated and awful when I intake more than about 90 grams of carbs. I try to stick to about 50. Not alot but I feel better when I do.
