maths professor, please

Am I doing my sums correctly? Here's what I think:
My daily chart tells me I have eaten x amount of calories.
My BMR and lifestyle calorie requirements, per day, are z
My calories earned this day (= burned up)by exercise are y
Add together y + z
If x is greater than (y+z) - then I have overeaten for this day
If x is less than (y+z) - then I am in calorie deficit and – hooray! – will lose an ounce or two‼
Just my luck that there will be a maths professor somewhere on this site who will tell me I've got this all wrong.

Why bother with all the math when the site figures it up for you? I've been losing weight consistently for nearly 5 months and the only math I have had to understand is > and <.0

You are correct. If calories burned by lifestyle + calories burned by exercise > what I ate = losing weight.0 -
On here, if you say your goal is to lose 2 pound a week, those 2 pounds are already included in you calorie allotments. If you're under your calories, technically you'll lose more than that.0
