I try to do an hour work out twice a week.

Consists of 10 mins Crosstrainer -Warm up
30 Mins weights - Ab crunches on ball, Chest press, Bicep curl, Ab machine, lateral arm raise and pull down. + once week some work on my legs.
20 Mins cardio - Mix it up. I do 1 week bike, 1 week stepper, 1 week cross trainer.

Been doing it for 2 months and overall I have lost approx 5lbs. But my body fat percentage has come down by nearly 2%. I am also a bit naughty and eating well at work but still have 1-2 take aways a week. Yet my body fat is still falling as the lean muscle is going on. Will drop the take aways and fully diet/calorie count when I am a bit lower and need the boost to get through the plateu.

I spend an hour or two on cardio machines - treadmill, elliptical or something like that.

I don't go to the gym. I've got floor space and the outdoors for that. Why spend $50/month, when I can do it for free!

I do resistance training (body weight workouts) and "light" cardio 3 times/week, alternating between each every day.

You will lose more weight if you do strength training too, not just cardio. It is better for you to do cardio and strength.

Its whatever you are happiest with.

I did read somewhere that anything over an hour does not benefit you as much as you first hour. Not sure where I read it. If I can find it again I will post the link.

The benefit of the weights is that the muscle needs to repair itself after you have lift them. To do this is continues to burn calories and fat.

With the cardio stuff. When you are doing it then it burns fat/calories. But when you stop the burn stops.

When you stop the weights it continues and you burn more calories/fat while you are resting/sleeping.

I highly suggest you get some strength/resistance training in, instead of just straight cardio for an hour or two hours.
When you do straight cardio, you are losing muscle and fat.. which eventually turns into a skinny fat look. By lifting weights though you preserve a lot of that muscle, so the weight loss is mostly fat and less muscle. Plus muscle burns more calories then fat at rest.. which means you are burning extra each day, without even doing anything more.

That being said, I spend about an 30 to 45 minutes at the gym 3 to 4 times a week.

I do either 2 days of cardio and one strength or 2 strength and one day of cardio.

you should try and add some to your routine, instead of just cardio. it'll help you tone and muscle burns more cals than fat when you're sat doing nothing!

I find going to classes beneficial as there are others there to encourage you, I go to spinning classes for cardio, Zumba tone, pole fitness and TRX for resistance training and have just started Rebound and Bokwa which are like combination of cardio and resistance. These are on alternate days so my routine is varied. Hope this helps
  • I do bootcamp 3 times a week for an hour and boxercise once a week

I LOVE my gym. I go about 4 - 5 times per week (60-120 min), and I like to do a variety of things, in order to combat boredom and to keep my body from getting used to anything.

Classes are the BEST!! I love Bodypump (weights), Bodystep, spinning, zumba, I will try anything and everything. Group exercise is so much fun, you can't quit early, and all the energy in the room is contagious.

I hardly ever just go to run on a treadmill or machine, unless I am doing Bodypump and want to leave with more of a calorie burn.

I think everyone just has to find a routine that is sustainable for them. You want to do something that is enjoyable week after week, month after month. For me, that has to be many different things.

I am not consistent at the gym, but I like the elliptical (30 min) the stair machine (10-20 min) the stationary bike (30 min) and I like the weights (dead lifts and dumb bells) the lat pulldown and the row machine, 2 sets of each and I go until fail.

Lately I have discovered the kettlebell and I do video routines at home.

My gym membership is up next spring and unless they offer me some kind of deal I won't re-up.

Just doing cardio for weight loss can cause muscle catabolizm leaving your body soft a flabby. Not to mention with loss of lean muscle, your metabolic rate will be slower and that means you have to do LONGER and LONGER durations to try to burn the same amount of calories from a few weeks prior.
Strength and cardio go hand in hand with sensible weight loss.

I started out spending at least an hour at the gym, more like an hour and a half. Then I realized that I could spend half the time if I increased the intensity of my workouts. So now I spend about 45 minutes to an hour there. I usually start with 20-30 minutes of cardio in intervals, then do 20-30 minutes of weight training. I'm there 4-5 times a week.

I spend 2 hrs a day on mon, wed, fri. Then 1 hour a day on tues, thurs, sat.
It is crucial to add some kind of strength training to your exercise. I did only cardio for the first 3 weeks and my weight loss stopped. Then I added my strength training and started shedding the weight. I am down 26 lbs in 40 days.

Also for those interested in toning up I highly recommend doing a brief cardio warm up then your strength training. Save your major cardio workout for after lifting. Studies have shown a 19% increase in muscle growth when doing cardio after lifting.

Ditto! I prefer outdoor or our basement. We have treadmill, bike, weights, LOT's of DVD workouts. I make time WHENEVER!
    Next to purchase - elliptical!
