hey all! we've had these machines at my gym for about a year or so. they are great! you can treat it like an elliptical or stairstepper, use your arms or not, etc. anyways, how would you log it? i've been logging as elliptical (along with the cals showed on the machine). just curious if anyone else has seen these and likes them!? i call them "kangaroos" cause you always look like you're bouncing on them. so fun and a great bun burner.

I wouldn't use the calories on the machine, no matter what you decide to do with it. If you don't have a heart rate monitor with chest strap, elliptical seems the closest unless there's an entry with the name of the machine.

I use those also.. and always put elliptical.
  • I found the Precore website *the brand of the machine in your pic* and it says it's called an AMT - Adaptive Motion Trainer. Looks like a fun machine!

At my gym we call it a Variable Motion Elliptical.

The Precor AMT (Adaptive Motion Trainer) 100i Elliptical. This is a cross between an elliptical trainer and a stair master, User defined motion, the machine adapts to your movement. You get a different workout every single time.

I love the internet, my gym has these to. I have never tried one but i always called it a stair climber:happy:

I would go with an elliptical machine. It does work a different set of muscles, but it is probably about the same intensity as the elliptical. It's one of my favorite machines as well. Good luck!

Sorry to jump on the bandwagon but I have a similar question....they just call this a stepper....no arm action required. Any ideas what I should log it as?

i'm not too concerned with getting the EXACT amount of cals. i don't have a HRM and the machines are pretty new so their built in HRMs seem to be pretty accurate. i am very aware of my body and can tell what's high and low. also, it asks for my weight and age beforehand so i'm fairly confident it's within 100cals. good enough for me!

oooo that is cool! looks like you mainly do stepping but it allows some give for your legs to swing? i'd probably log as ellip too given the resistance. you can always underestimate minutes (that's what i do) if you're unsure.
