Net Burn?

I have seen something that concerns me a wee bit with the way MFP calculates burned calories. They do not seem to take in account the calories you would have burned just existing during the exercise time period.

EXAMPLE:
MFP Tells me that walking at a slow pace for 4 hours burns 1182 calories...a HUGE burn!

Nutrimirror, a site I used previously and which DOES account for normal expenditure, would tell me 823 burned but that NET calories are only 461!

It seems like not accounting for this could cause potentially HUGE problems to weight loss by making us think we burned more than we did (and can therefore eat more).

Any ideas/suggestions?

get a HRM...sorry but in all reality the "burns" on this site are WAY off...for me i burn a whole lot less than what they say i do and what the machines say i do...so...

I do want to get a HRM at some point, but I don;t really have the funds right now. Any recommendations for when I do?
