Art to Tattoo

Guess it would depend on what kind of art/tattoo you're looking for.0

There are a lot of artists who translate well- but you really need to choose a tattoo that means something to you... not just something that might look "artsy".
Good luck with this.0 -

I have a big tattoo on my lower back and OMG did it hurt!
Good luck on yours0 -
Most tattoo artists would draw something out for you themselves. I think they actually enjoy putting their own work on someone than copying another person's. If you give them a general idea of what you want I'm sure they'd draw it out for you, and of course they'd understand better than any artist if you want it slightly changed.0

Most tattoo shops will have one of the artists draw up ideas for you. If you know where you're going to get the tattoo done at they can have a session where you talk to them about what you want and they draw it up. Contact the parlor and/or who you know the tattoo artist is going to be.0

Any person who tattoos is only worth going to if they can draw up something artsy and meaningful to you. Try checking out the work of local tattoo artist and ask about custom pieces. Really good shops only do custom work and it is well worth it for something that big.0

You need to research the work of alot of different tattoo artist, then decide for yourself.0

The best artist would be the guy or girl who tattoos you. A good or great tattoo artist will want to draw it themselfs. And some of the best will free hand it on you then tattoo it. I know a great tattoo guy in the PA area if you are interested. He did my arm.0

I have a tattoo on my upper thigh (all the way round) which the tattoo artist and I kind of made up on the spot after he lost my original artwork! Anyway.. my personal opinion is if you try and copy exactly anything then you will end up disappointed, especially paintings, best idea is throw a few ideas around with the artist and come up with something between you. That way it feels more "personal".
Good luck, you could be there a while (mine took 4 hours). Whoever said the fleshy parts hurt least.. was lying.

I have tattoos already and a regular artist I use. I always pick something that means something to me and is something I really want, hence the research. I was just after ideas to try and pull mine together. I like to have an organised jumble of ideas before I go to my artisit so then at least I know what i mean if not the specifics of it0

Thanks I'll have a look
Like I say its for basic ideas at this stage0 -
Do not copy an artists piece of art on your body. For one thing, it will never look like the original one and you may hate it. and for another, its just not right. A good tattoo artist will probably not do it anyways.
I loooooove the watercolor type of tattooing. Id do some research and find a tattoo artist that has a style you like. then you can take them pictures of some ideas and they will draw something for you. Most of them love to dig in and do something creative for a change.0 -
I wasn't going to copy it directly I was just really looking for inspiration to pull my ideas together as I have a million and one little bits of everything with no organisation yet. I have an awesome tattoo artist who has done my other 3 already. I would never copy a direct piece of work just as I would never pick a tattoo out of the book on a wim. I put a lot of thought into my tatts and just thought I'd try the avenue of art for ideas0
