Increase calories= scared

Okay...So I had a consultation with a dietician yesterday because my triglicerides are way too high. As a result, we went over my diet and exercise routine. She said I am eating way to few calories.. She said for my age,weight, height etc..I should eat 1600 calories a day..OMG! that scares me to death.. Currently I eat 1200-1360 and workout 5 days a week..burning at least 300 calories at each workout.
On a good note..she said I am very knowledgeable about food and calories which shows in my weight loss so far. She indicated my diet per se didn't need any tweaking as I was eating properly.
She also said on non-workout days I could eat less calories but should still eat 1400...ugh..
Any suggestions? words of wisdom? How did I get past this mental block of increasing calories

You'll do fine! I'm a couple years older than you and also have a goal of losing 52 pounds. I regularly eat between 1800-2400 calories a day, and haven't had any trouble losing weight. I'm down 36 pounds since mid-April. :-)0

It can be a scary thing thinking you have been doing so well and are faced with the trump now of being given more calories. But think about it this way: When you first started and they cut off all your calories and told you to change your plan it was hard, it was scary, but it worked and you got through it

The dietitian gave you some solid advice. I am currently consuming 1600 calories a day and I am most certainly not blowing up like a balloon!0

I know that this is going to be me soon. My DR has recommended that I see a nutritionist because I don't meet my daily calorie needs. This scares me too! I haven't met with the nutritionist yet but my DR has started me slowly on eating more, adding different higher calorie foods to my day... like avocado to my salad. BABY STEPS. I think thats how you do it.

1600 calories is below most people's bmr so your dietician sounds like she knows what she is doing and is more knowledgeable in this area than an of us.0

That was me in June; listen to your nutritionist. My loss has been steady, and when I get stuck for things to eat I can e-mail her for advice. I'm losing because I was diagnosed with diabetes 31 May. At the end of August I reduced my A1C enough to come completely off 1 med. My triglycerides are still a bit high, but I dropped my cholesterol by 86 points and my LDL by 61 points. My goal is to be off all meds by the end of November.
It was a bit of a struggle at first, but I utilise calorie dense, good fat things like walnuts and I've upped my fiber intake with ground flax and home made bran muffins to help with the triglycerides. I second adding 100 calories at a time as that helped me ease up from 1200 to 1550 a day.0 -
I know its hard because you do not want to eat that much for fear gaining any weight you lost,Listen to your dietition and if things don't work out then do whats best for your body because only you truly know.0
