"love handles"

I had a look to see if I could find any topic on this but didn't see anything really.
I know that my "love handles" are not huge but they are there.. they are the bits that hand over my jeans at the back and side and I HATE them.. my tummy is not bad.. its the hip fat and back fat that I want to tone/lose.
I do cardio and the usual tummy crunches and core type exercise and I expected that the cardio would shift the blubber but it hasn't.
Can anyone give me particular tonning exercises to lose the 'love handles'?

There aren't any, sadly. They're just fat which means no toning possible.
It also means that losing them is down to losing fat in general, which is the usual painful formula of exercise + diet.0 -
Lose the weight and they will eventually fade... whether or not they disappear is up to you0

V-Up Crunches on your side! They are from the P90x program and are amazing! You can google it.0

The best exercise for love handles isn’t side bends, like most people would probably think since they build the most resistance for your sides. Actually to make almost any exercise more effective, you just add resistance, that way you force your body to do more work at the same time. You should also supplement your effort by incorporating calorie shifting for total body weight loss.
So how do you go about adding resistance? Simple, take crunches for example (which are better than regular situps), you can do regular crunches and experience regular resistance, but if you add a 5 pound weight to your hands and rest that weight on your chest as you do the crunches, you will notice a lot more muscle contraction in your core area.
So what is the best exercise for love handles after adding resistance? That’s really up to you, pick a workout you enjoy doing and just add resistance, I like the russian v-twist. Take a 5-8 pound medicine ball, sit on your bottom with knees bent to make a v, and move the medicine ball from side to side in a consistent motion, this makes your love handles burn and stimulates weight loss. This is one of the ways how to get six pack abs.
I like to do about 30 repetitions of that exercise and about 4 sets, you don’t want to overdo it if you don’t workout your core that much, you can start wherever you are comfortable. Another great exercise to get rid of those love handles and build a leaner body is one where you need a partner. Lay on your back with your head between your partners’ feet and have him/her swing your legs down, preferably diagonally so that you can workout your sides to help burn off those love handles.
Good Luck Sweetie..

General thanks to everyoe that replied every little bit of information helps.
Thanks heaps Rachel you give me hope.. I'm not all that over weight so it is really all about targeting the specific areas that I want toned/flatter and you have given me lots of ideas.
Thanks Sriccio20 I'll google that and see if I can add that to my regular routine!0 -

LIFT!!! Seriously, you can be a cardio bunny, but the only way (unless you are a die-hard runner aka marathon runner) to cut the fat and get lean is to lift some heavy weights. Deadlifts, squats, lunges etc with heavy weights will work all your core muscles. "Heavy" is defined by what you are capable of. Only you know that. I am finally seeing the extra flab go bye-bye after starting to lift heavy. I have been following the New Rules of Lifting for Women program and alternating bodyrock.tv workouts on my non-lifting days. Both incorporate the opportunities to lift heavy, though. Don't give up on the cardio, it's important, but the real power, muscle & strength will be gained in the weight room!
The weighted mason-twists are a great exercise for the core! So are a lot of other things, though!
The other missing piece to the puzzle is NUTRITION! I've heard it said, genetics are 10%, workouts are 10%, but 80% is nutrition. I'm really starting to believe that. I've seen amazing results since I've started paying more attention to clean-eating.0 -
