Healthy Eating on the Road

If I'm not at home, I'm either at church, the gym, or at work--on average I'm at work 35 hours a week, which I feel is the biggest problem area.

I feel that finding healthy food on the go is my biggest obstacle. The healthiest thing that there is to eat around my workplace is Subway.

I'm pretty much surrounded by McDonald's, Sonic, Jack in the Box, KFC, Popeye's and Taco Bell.

Does anyone have any advice?

Make and pack meals. I almost never eat out. I bring my lunch to work and I have snacks in the car to eat if I need to snack.

    Pack your food.
I make my meals for my work day the night before. I have my lunch and at least two snacks. I will pack a protein bar, some almonds, an apple, grapes, a yogurt, hard boiled eggs, etc.
Lunch is usually a salad and either tuna, chicken breast, turkey beast or salmon.
  • Make your meals the night before :)
I'm at work the same kind of hours in the city and there is nothing healthy to buy - besides fruit :)
I usually make eggs for brekky, chicken or steak with veggies for lunch and then fruit and yogurt in the day.

It's so much easier to watch what you eat and know you're never indulging in calories you don't know exist!

Make the fast food restaurants work for you instead of against you and your program. For instance, at McD, eat the interior of the grilled chicken sandwich (minus the mayo , minus the bread, minus the cheese). Very good. Still hungry, eat two. Better yet, eat the interior of the angus beef burger (no cheese or mayo). HMMM good. Or, at KFC, eat grilled chicken, thighs, legs, breasts, without the skin. Pair this with a diet pepsi (for your one alloted diet drink per day). I have lost aboout 38 pounds and regularly use the fast food restaurants when traveling, or at work. The bottom line, watch the carbs, don't eat the breads, nor the sides. Bon Appetit
  • Thank you for all your advice, guys!
It's going to be of much help!
  • couldnt agree more about pre-planning. just do not go and buy something on the road! Likelihood is that by the time you stop you are already v hungry and less likely to opt for a healthy choice, even if there was one! you'll save money too...
Also make sure you have a good breakfast and keep healthy snacks and a bottle of water with you at all times for emergencies!!
