Hey there,
So having a kid can be tough. Tougher when the pregnancy weight is "weighing" you down. Everyone's weight story and goal is different, but its nice to know that this site can bring in the support we all need in order to start, maintain, and motivate us to a healthier life. I would love to hear idea's, stories, tips, and inspiration from those who are just starting or re-starting, or those who have found their nitch and can help out the rest of us.

I totally feel this. I started my journey back in July and this after my son is now 5 years old. I gained about 40 or so pounds. Frankly, after I saw 305 on the scale before I gave birth, I stopped looking. It was scary. When I got pregnant I was 265 pounds. For the last five years I went between 285 and 275. A couple of years ago I had a doctor put me on phentermine. While this made me lose weight, it was unhealthy and it all came back on. From the best of my recollection, I got down into the 250's while on that drug.
I am currently 247. I have re-evaluated my goals, why I want to lose weight, and I am dealing with the issues behind my weight as I go. There was a reason I kept the weight on. Addiction to food that was sparked by low self esteem as a kid, secret eating (thanks for teaching me that, mom!) and being made to feel like taking care of myself was selfish. I got tired of feeling pressed down by what everyone else thought and started to FINALLY look at myself. No one else is going to take care of me. I have to do it. I got myself fat, I need to work to get myself healthy.
I have also discussed my decision with my son. He fully supports me (as any adoring 5 year old son would) and tells me he is proud of me. Total love and that is just freakin' awesome.

Hi! I just had a baby at the end of August. I had gained about 50 lbs during my pregnancy. So Im just starting out on my journey. My first goal is to get a scale.. so I can keep myself on track. I had started taking my daughter for walks in her stroller about 40 min a day.. but now that its getting colder out, and my girl has a cold.. so i couldnt walk her outside! Ah! So today I did 15 minute at a time of walking circles around my house carrying her around..haha
I also plan to join a Zumba class hopefully next week, and I have a friend to go with which will hopefully keep me motivated. I have never been one to excersise so I hope to start a good habit!0 -
I too have a little one. Honestly I gained weight AFTER my bundle of joy arrived. I am really depressed about my weight and I try not to let it bring me down but it does. I have a long journey like most people. I probably should lose about 80 pounds or so. I have personally decided to give up grains for a while. I am not a major fan anyway. I prefer sweet potatoes and corn and lots of fruit. I am trying to not allow anything in that I really don't care for. Bread and pasta I discovered I really don't like. Maybe that will help. Also be careful everyone and anyone with a child! I ended up doing what my mother did with my sister and I. I eat dinner (for example) and when my little one doesn't finish his I will...and you know what every bite is another ten calories or so! I was like 'yeah alright this is like three bites of crackers, cheese...what have you.' But one day with this tracker and I am like OH MAN SERIOUSLY! So as much as I love my tot, and you all love your children please don't feel guilty if you have to toss out some food. Its better than watching cling to our hips that is for sure!
As for it being cold you can try a rain/snow shield and a stroller blanket. I have one, too bad we are most likely not anywhere near each other or I would give you mine. But ToysRUs and Babies R Ushas them and they are really handy. I used the plastic shield AND the stroller blanket (it literally is like a large snowsuit for the stroller with a place for baby's head. The plastic shield is useful because it keeps the cold wind off of the baby's face and of course the snow/rain. But the blanket is wonderful because it surrounds the stroller AND child so it keeps baby warm completely. But don't forget a coat and hat and such for your baby...the stroller blankets are not that warm. Also too if your little one is still in an infant car seat those too you will be able to find 'blankets' for. Again they are not the fix all but when the sun is out, even on a cold day, the plastic warms up (its hard plastic and it stays well away from baby's face trust me) : ) and the blanket warms up...sort of like cars in the winter. : ) I hope this helps and keep up the good work everyone. I too gained weight during and after my pregnancy ( my baby girl is 16 months), I am looking to lose at least 60 more lbs, and I want to do it now rather then later, I want to LIVE to play with her and go on adventures with her!0

My pregnancy was one of those "miracle babies". We were told we would never have kids of our own so when our little girl came to us she was much welcomed. But the pregnancy was ruff as was the delivery and the resulting near death post pregnancy medical issues that ensued. I was heavy to begin with and with the baby weight and treatment and meds, well here I am 80 pounds later. Alive with a beautiful kiddo, but man, that massive weight gain is reeking havoc on my poor body.
I now have the time and means and motivation, so with whats left after the end of the day from chasing a little toddler around is going to be put to use in taking care of myself so I can continue to take care of her. I am open to idea's and pointed of how to integrate mommy life with making it a healthy life.0 -
Liz, you and I are good friends, and I would be so sad if we didn't have you or your lil one in our lives! (now move closer!) Anyways, with me, I had a good 10 - 15 min every morning M - F where I just sat and talked on the phone with the hubby on his way to work, (we have had a recumbent bike for a few years now lol, with little use) So, I decided I'd start taking that time, and instead of checking facebook (which I could do AFTER) I hopped on the bike, and have been biking at least 10 minutes a day during the week.
I also had my neighbor, that for a couple times, we went and took a walk to our local park, which was about a mile round trip. However, kids got sick (mine and hers) and I ended up with a UTI, and we haven't gotten back into it yet (starting to get a bit chilly out).
Also, this site has helped me start to eat a little better, because I can keep track of my calorie intake better. I'm not scoring any awesome numbers like 5 lbs a week (I hear that's quite unhealthy anyways to lose that fast, right? lol) but for the few months I've been doing the biking, I've lost about 10 lbs total (granted it still fluctuates by at least 3 lbs.....but I'm still proud of myself!)
