Ok what the hell are they doing on that ranch behind the scenes!! Because I see so many people working their butt off on here and are grateful if they get 2 lbs in a week. WTH.

They work out for about 7 hours each day...0 -
I've been watching the show since it started and every now & then you will here the contestants say when they go home they don't have 6 or 8 hours to work out every day! They have a controlled diet and exercise 6 to 8 hours a day. Once they go home it's just maintenance, which is why a few of them have failed over time when they go home.0
-
very very unrealistic what they do there, the majority of us don't have the time or energy to workout 7 hours a day like they do, and once they get back to their normal lives, they won't be able to do that, I don't think anyone would or even could if you have other commitments like work, study or children.0
-
if I had nothing to do all day other than exercise, and the chance to win a buttload of money as a motivator, I would probably lose weight quickly too. Don't they have someone to prepare meals for them, too? then again, if I had an unlimited budget for meals, I'm sure I could prepare it myself and have it be extremely healthy and low-cal.0

That show is not showing realistic results. Its entertaining, but not realistic. They have a controlled diet and strict diet. They have no outside stress usually. No work, No kids, No school. So they can focus fully on losing weight. They also exercise an insane amount of time, 7-8 hours a day (if not more). Not to mention most contestants have a lot of weight to lose. It sucks to say, but its true, someone who has 200lbs to lose is going go lose more in one week, than someone only trying to lose 15-20lbs.
I've also "heard" that 1 week on the biggest loser is not actually 1 week (7 days), that sometimes its actually a week 1/2, or 2 weeks. There was also a contestant who complained about the show, who said the contestants would purposely dehydrate themselves the day of the weigh in to get extra good results.
If you have netflix (or don't mind watching TV on the computer). The show RUBY (netflix) and MTV's "I used to be fat" are really good, and seem a lot more realistic.0 -
I'm also curious as to HOW they manage to lose all that weight and not end up with saggy bits of skin.... Some of them go from being real big to real small, surely not all of the skin shrinks back??? Just a thought0

I just had a couple links shared to me on FB about this very thing! Here they are if you're interested...

I personally found these pretty disturbing and a little grateful that I dont loose that much in a week. I love my realistic weight loss because it has a better chance of STAYING off that way!! Such an eye opener....0 -
I've watched to odd programme and it doesn't look a very healthy sustainable way of life to me. I'm suprised they haven't killed anyone so far but if they did they probably edit it out.0

Found a great surgeon :]0 -
I haven't watched this show. But the problem with all of these shows is that they are not there to give the contestants a sustainable healthy lifestyle incorporating exercise and proper eating habits. That would not make good TV. They are there to show dramatic results, so people will watch. Therefore, they get the contestants to do unrealistic and unsustainable things that work in the short-term. What happens after the show is not their problem.0

I'm watching every series of austrailia biggest loser on sky from 2007. Loving it. Starting on couples now though and I'm a little unsure. They are happy with a 2lb loss sometimes as when you have a massive massive loss one week it can often result in nothing the week after. Week 2 is especially know from low weight losses. Its not practical to do what they do at home, but what a great building block. As others say great to have a unlimited budget, what amazes me is a lot of them have no loose skin at the end. It really motivates me when you see people at like 30 stone working out so much. Even with every day life in the way it prooves you can do more exercise than you make yourself believe is possible. X0

Wow, that was crazy to read. Bummer, I liked that show. I hate how they twist what really happens, eve if it is TV. If they say someone's doing this or that, they should at least be doing it. Shoot next we'll see some extreme weight loss show and then find out the contestants actually just get lypo, and didn't even really lose the weight.0 -
the show is great to inspire people but it isn't realistic and most of them put at least some of the weight back on. I've heard often that weight loss is 90% about diet and 10% exercise.... I tend to agree with that from personal experience too.
Recently I lost 30lbs in 6 weeks... I only started at about 130 lbs (says the exact number in my sig) and since have gained a fair bit back, I work out more atm, but I also eat a lot more so I'd say diet does contribute a lot lot more.0 -

Sorry to tell you but what you heard is wrong. It is 7 days between weigh ins. The contestants get checked for dehydration before they weigh in.
Just thought you might want to know.. and btw GO RED TEAM0 -

I believe they have food tailored specifically for their body type and they are working out 10-14 hours a day! Because I am struggling to get a pound off per week. But you are doing well, so keep it up!!!0 -
During the finale you can see that the contestants on biggest loser are wearing body stockings - take a closer look (I did!). This is no doubt to assist with a streamlined look and to help control the excess skin. When the contestants raise their arms, the excess skin is visible (I looked for it).0
