I have a problem though...I LOVE food. So it's hard for me to take a day off because I don't want to eat my sedentary calorie burn of 1500 just to maintain my weight. That's sucky!
Does anyone else feel like this? You're motivated to workout because you want to eat more? lol.0 -
I approve of this topic!
I’m 5’10”, currently 188 lbs (or so I was the last time I checked… I stopped paying attention), and I’m 26.
In general I aim for 2200 on workout days, 2000 on non-workout days, but I have a feeling I’m going to go back to 2400 on workout days, 2200 on non-workout days eventually. I’m still messing with the numbers. However, that includes my exercise calories. I generally burn 250-500 calories for workouts, and do strength training 3 days per week, and cardio or HIIT 1-2 days per week. Obviously I’m still trying to lose weight, but it’s not happening on any sort of calorie deficit, so I ditched the scale and the excessive cardio and starting lifting weights instead.
And I love eating like a normal person.
Not sure how to repost this post with my post lol...I like how you said you like eating like a normal person I think sometimes we once we start this we become obsessed and a little overzealous. The important thing is to be happy with the habits we have and then let it fall into place. I am guilty of being impatient and want results right now so I become a tad bit extreme. But kudos to you I really like reading your post.0 -
I love this topic. I cannot starve myself, and my body tells me so. When my calories are too low, I get dizzy, and I'll go over my daily goal in that case if I need to because my body knows better than an arbitrary number. I am still in the process of losing weight, so my MFP net goal is set at 1560 (just upped it by 100/day two weeks ago), so on non-exercise days, that's where I'm at. I typically net right around there, meaning that on days I run (3x per week), I am eating around 2000 calories total. My calorie burns are a little less with other exercise, so maybe eating 1800-1900 on those days. I typically get at least a slow walk with my toddler in on non-exercise days too, so really, I guess on those days I total around1700. I eat fairly well, better on weekdays than weekends, but I also don't deny myself a treat a day if I want, be it a beer or a scoop of ice cream.

Heck yea I'm a fat girl...at my worse I eat more than grown men. Now that I am trying to take control of it I do the same thing lol0 -
What's your current height/weight/age?
How many calories do you aim for on workout vs non-workout days?
How frequently do you workout and for how long?
I'm 5'4", 164#, 27 yrs old (female), aiming to lose 0.5#/week. my body fat is around 27% so I have a lot of muscle and am trying to only lose fat so I'm taking it slow. MFP has me set at 1730 calories, which I aim for on non-workout days. I work out 5 days a week at bootcamp for an hour each time, burn approx 540 cal each time, so on workout days I aim for around 2100-2200 calories. And you BET I'm hungry enough to eat them all! I can't imagine eating 1200 a day. I'd die. For reals.0 -

I pay more attention to my weekly average and have read a few things that say that is okay. You could "save" a couple hundred calories from workout days to eat on your rest days. Rest days are important.0 -

5'3.5" (half an inch makes a difference!). I weigh 130 lbs and I am 26 years old.
How many calories do you aim for on workout vs non-workout days?
Right now my base calories are set for 1550, and when I workout I usually burn around 400+. I workout 4-5 times a week, so my average intake is around 1900-2100 a day.
Just getting back into eating a lot more than I was before. I am still trying to lose another 5-10lbs and drop some BF%. I am currently around 20% BF.
I am hoping that netting 1500 calories a day will allow me to lose a couple extra pounds. I have been around the same weight for the past year.
Oh yeah, my name is Melissa! Hi friends!!:flowerforyou:0 -

good idea in theory but my mind doesn't work like that. saving calories and what not just makes me feel bleh on days when I am eating those "Saved" calories that I didn't burn that day. Does that make sense? Since I'm also trying to lose 2-3 pounds it makes it even more difficult to eat "saved" calories because I'd never get to goal doing that.0 -
This topic is giving me hope! Thanks for posting it. I love days that I eat around 2000 calories, that's where I'm most comfortable, but I am currently aiming for 1520 net, and usually end up eating around 1600-1800 so I won't answer your questions.
Just wanted to say thanks for letting me know that my comfort level of 2000 is possible for maintenance! YAY0 -
oh 2000 is more than possible..it's ideal for mOST women but we get so afraid of calories and teach our bodies to be efficient enough to survive on less. I've "maintained" on 1700-1800 with the same amount of exercise...the only difference is that now I lift heavier weights and I eat more. I am teaching my body to trust me, to let go of fat, and to maintain on more!0

I'm 5ft 7.5" or 172cm, weigh 221lbs and I'm 25.
I always try to eat less than 2000 calories a day. My current BMR is 1800 so I try to aim for that each day no matter if I'm active or not. Compared to others on here that seems quite a lot but my average before was around 2600 calories a day when I did little activity so there is a negative difference plus I still like to eat!
I actually tend to eat less on my heavy workout days, which when I exercise for 1.5 to 2 hours and burn about 1000 calories. I say I have 1 rest day a week but still do some light activity such as cleaning and strecthing to burn around 300 calories ontop of my BMR. These days I get hungry more as I tend to spend more time indoors, so saving calories burned on other days help when I can't resist.0 -
So happy I found this topic! I'm 5'8, 220ish, and I recently upped my calories to 1800-2200 net per day because I've hit a major plateau and I realized that 1200-1400 net calories just isn't enough for me. It's been a couple of weeks and nothing's really changed so far, but here's hoping!0

Hi there - 5'5" and 194 pounds. I'm currently at about 26 % body fat and aiming for 18%, so I still have about 20 pounds to go. Since joining MFP I've lost 13 pounds or so, total of 33 since I started losing weight, and I've been trying to follow the philiosophy of eating the maintenance calories of the weight you want to be at (174) which puts me at about 2300. On workout days I'll hit that number, but on off days I'm closer to 2000. I've also been reading the New Rules of Lifiting for Women and I love it - my strength gains have been incredible and I feel so much stronger! The only quibble I have with the plan is the calories the book suggests. Because my BMI is over 25 (and we all know how accurate BMI is, right?) and over 40, my activity multiplier is lower than somebody younger and smaller. That gave me a calorie range of 1700 and 2000. When I tried that I was seriously fatigued and the weight didn't exactly fall off me, so I upped it again to where I had been and average a net calories of 1700. The weight loss is slow, but it's still slowly drifting downwards and I am glad that I won't have to worry about changing my habits once I reach my goal.0

Thanks for the compliment!
You CAN eat more if you're active...and you don't have to go overboard and try to negate every calorie you eat. More is less, believe it or not. Most women can maintain on ~1800 calories a day, as long as you're an overall active person (and by active, as long as you do some kind of activity 30-45 minutes a day, whether it be working out, walking, running, etc).
If your metabolism is high, because you live an active lifestyle, your body will get adjusted to burning more calories naturally, and you won't gain weight. Of course if you go back to being a couch potato it will definitely come back on.
Back in the day, years ago, I used to eat 900-1200 calories a day (even though I was working out) because I figured a small girl needs to eat like a rabbit to stay small. I smartened up by educating myself, and now my body is more muscular and thus, burns more calories naturally. I went from 102-103 pounds and 22% body fat, to 110 pounds and 17% body fat by eating MORE and lifting heavy weights. I am so much healthier now and look way better too!0 -

I love food and yes, the desire to be able to eat makes me want to exercise more
I'm 5'4'' and 134lbs, body fat around 24%, work out 5 days a weeks (average of 60 to 90 minutes, around 500 cal according to MFP), try to squeeze some walks in the weekend and eat an average of 2000 cal a day. My goal, quoting Fat2Fit Radio, is to be thin eating as much as I can.
By the way, I've lost 18lbs in 5 months eating and exercising at this level.0
