Does anyone else have late night binges? I seem to quite often and they're quite annoying... I'm not sure how to combat them though... if i could sleep early then that would be an easy solution but i have trouble getting to sleep at night and my mind often wanders to food and i get these horrible cravings.

clean your teeth when you get the urge to go and eat. Food tastes gros with toothpaste still lingering0

I tend to be a late night eater. I try to save some calories for that and plan ahead what I will eat at that time. I also watch tv and play solitaire on the computer to keep my hands busy. I have to find something else to do to distract me from wanting to eat.0

I used to. I still get cravings, but keeping track of everything I eat seems to help. Sometimes I have trouble falling asleep because I keep thinking about food, but I somehow make it through. I've been doing yoga in the evenings and it seems to help relax me and help me fall asleep. Yoga Daily Energy by Shiva Rea has a segment called Shanti which is awesome for active relaxation. Plust it keeps my mind busy on the movements and breathing and not on food.0

I had horrible cravings and late night binges until I started cutting all the processed carbs out of my diet. The cravings and binges are almost completely gone. Initially, I had to be tough and cut all carbs for about 2 weeks (this meant fruits too). Once I "detoxed" off carbs, I slowly added the good ones back in, keeping within my calorie range and nutritional goals.
I can tell you that when your in that situation of late night binging and cravings, if you cut the carbs, you will see a huge improvement. When you're eating protein rich foods (i.e. cheese sticks, nuts, etc.) you don't get up late at night and crave or think, "gee, I think I'll eat this entire package of cheese!" The cravings and urges to binge are just not there.
Before I got serious, I was getting up in the middle of the night eating whatever I could find that was processed. I had horrible acid reflux, was sleeping horribly, had headaches -- you name it. Now I sleep so good in the night, I don't get up and my headaches are gone!!0 -
I'm having similar issues, but not due to inability to sleep. I just struggle when it's dark and I'm sitting on the couch watching TV. I just want to chomp on some food. I was just reading another thread with some good ideas like cutting calories earlier in the day to anticipate some late night snacking and finding something to keep your hands busy. I normally have one Chobani yogurt during the day, but I think I'll eat a different low calorie snack during the day and save that for the evening so I feel like I'm getting a dessert and something I REALLY enjoy. :-)0

Almost every night...it was worse when I was on a certain medicine but I still get rumbles in my tummy around 12am or so...last night I tried to be good and had a piece of almond butter toast, but then I spotted the movie popcorn my BF had brought home and went back for some of that! I told him to get it out of here!
Buy some different flavors of gum and try that if it's just a munchy/mouth thing...I find that works for me...unles my stomach is actually growling and I can't go to sleep because I'm hungry.0 -
I used to a late evening meal and If I ate earlier on other days I would often pick at night or eat toast biscuits. Since I have changed my diet I dont feel as hungry at night I think my body clock has changed. I also go to bed alot earlier because I used to work till 9pm and now I finish at 7pm instead. When ever I get hungry now in the evening I will occasionally eat some branflakes or ryvitas with cottage cheese and cucumber or a bit of philly light with melba toasts. I was a complete bread addict at night now I rarely eat it. I dont miss the bloated feeling. I'd much rather treat myself to the odd meal and have what ever I want and curb the bread x good luck.. also when I ate late and heavy at night I always woke up hungry do you?? x0
