But on here when you tell people you do this they say you should eat more.

You Cant really win.

  • I think that every body is different so I suggest you do what works for you. I personally do NOT eat back my exercise cals but I have seen that some people say that they have lost weight doing the opposite. Try both and see and GOOD LUCK!!!

my understanding is that we eat to few calories our body goes into starvation mode (hence the reason malnutritioned people look pregnant) Every article i have researched shows that you are to eat back your burned calories
ex. you can eat 1400 calories a day - you burn 300 doing cardio - at the end of the day you eat 1700 calories
it makes sense if you read a few articles

I think 'eat less' refers to people following a standard American diet of over-consumption and lots of junk. Lots of people out there eat 3000+ calories and sit on their butts all day. Eat less, do more applies to them.

Eat less, do more does NOT apply to the person on MFP eating 1000 calories a day, burning of 400 calories in exercise and then eating back NONE of those exercise calories.

It's just not as simple as that... Yes you should eat less and move more but that's such an extremely general statement. Everyone is different as far as how much less they should eat or what they should eat less of and how much they should move.

You CAN win - you just have to figure out what formula works best for you. Try different things for 2-3 weeks at a time and see what kind of results you get. There are no quck fixes and no magic formulas!

Agreed. An overweight individual needs to eat less and do more than they were before attempting to lose. The "eat more" recommendation here on MFP is to the dieter that feels they have to restrict too much to achieve results.

Don't be so literal. You should do some combination of eating less and doing more, but you have to find the right balance. Maybe for you it's 0% eat less and 100% do more.
