Problems when eating sugary food.

Whenever I eat things like poptarts I always feel very gassy. I also get pretty bloated and get low energy. What do you think this is from?

But it seems that even if I eat a tiny amount I still get them.
I eat mainly clean, low fat foods but treat myself once in a while.0 -

Or... it could be the gluten in the pop-tarts. Gas, bloating and fatigue are more often associated with gluten issues than sugar issues.
Also dude... why are you eating pop-tarts? They make you feel bad and they taste awful! There are so many tastier and healthier breakfasts out there. :-)0 -

Does the same thing happen if you eat whole grain breads or cereal? If not, then it's wouldn't be a gluten intollerance.
Ive never heard of sugar itself causing that type of problem, but if you otherwise eat clean and healthy it might just be your gut saying "WTF is this??"0 -

At least this way you know what is going into them...but you probably have an intolerance to something. The sugar rush is definitely giving you the low energy. I usually feel like crap too after eating a sugary breakfast - try not to do that now.0 -

I love to eat as clean as I can. Just thing like broccoli, brown rice, chicken and protein powder. I dont often eat bread or cereals because I consider them dirty.
I only eat dirty maybe once a week.
Its probably the gut saying it doesnt like dirty foods.
Do you think I should stop eating dirty all together?0 -

LOL I tried throughout my childhood to develop a taste for Pop-Tarts, because all the other kids seemed to love them and it was cool to eat Pop-Tarts in home-room in the morning. To me, they always tasted like stale pie crust, topped with hard, dry icing and filled with a micro-thin layer of sticky, old jelly. Now, fresh donuts from the bakery... that's another story. :-)0 -

If you feel bad when you eat bread, cereal and Pop-Tarts, it really might be because of the gluten (not because they're 'dirty' foods). All the clean food you listed (broccoli, chicken, protein powder) is naturally gluten-free. Gluten intolerance affects many more people than you'd think!
My father actually can't have *anything* with wheat in it at all because he has celiac disease. Basically, the gluten in wheat is treated like a foreign substance by his digestive system. If he eats anything with wheat - even a tiny amount - his body has an autoimmune response. My brother and I were both tested for gluten sensitivity, and fortunately don't have it.
But, it really might be something you want to look into.0 -

Well, I suppose we'd all be better off if we never ate "dirty" but it's also kind of unrealistic to be good ALL the time. You might just need to experiment with foods to find the real culprit. The best way to be clean and check for gluten intollerance is eat some bulgar wheat (maybe a taboleh salad). If you are gluten intollerant this clean food will cause you to become gassy and bloated. If it doesn't, you are not gluten intollerant and it's something else.0 -
Even my personal trainer that put together my plan had me do a refeed once a week, has me do high carb, low fat the second half of my 7th day. And yes, I too have some low fat poptarts on that day (and I too feel a little bloated after my refeed, but I'm sure it's just because your body's not used to those kinds of carbs since you eat clean the rest of the time). Good to have some sort of break in your diet every now and then imo. As long as you stick with healthy the rest of the time, see no prob with that. My plan worked wonders for me, got very lean and cut.. Ofcourse he had me doing cardio and weight training too and the rest of my diet was very clean.0
