Spread your food intake out throughout the day by having a small breakfast then a lo cal snack, then a small lunch and another lo cal snack, and then a moderate dinner. By small I mean try and keep it under 300 cals for breakfast and lunch (total of 600).

Lo cal snacks--carrots, grapes, grape tomatoes, fresh berries, popcorn (watch the butter!)
  • I eat plain bell peppers, sometimes dipped in hummus. Good snack!

    I like melons.
  • I'm not a big fruit/veg fan either. Most of my intake is as part of my meals ie homemade bolognese but half the meat content and replace with grated carrot. But yeah, protein is more filling too.

Try veggies in different ways. If you don't like them cooked, try eating them raw (with hummus or a litlte light dressing if you prefer dipping). If you don't like boiled, try sauteeing with a little olive oil (or other healthy oil). If you don't like canned, try frozen instead - just be careful of the ones with sauces as this can up the calories/sodium.

As far as fruit is concerned, I wouldn't worry so much about the sugars because they're natural and there are so many benefits to eating fruits - antioxidants, vitamins, fiber, etc. However, if you're watching your sugar for health reasons, stick to lower sugar fruits like berries and melons.

ETA - agree with the above poster who recommended more protein - it can help you feel fuller longer
