If is official I have signed up for my first Marathon and need to get in shape. I love this site and it will be a great help for me to monitor my calories.

I signed up for a marathon in April too! I've ran one before and did ok, ended up mostly walking the last 10 miles and it hurt a lot. My goal is that I feel better during this one regardless of time.

    Ally,

Thanks for the info on your experience. I use to run in College but have not exercised in 3years and scared out of my mind. I have wanted to do this for a long time.

Ok, I am starting to panic! I have only been training for a week and I am starting to feel like I am not going to be ready by April. I have shin splints and back pain. I am not going to stop but this is scary...

Keep it up.................... the shin splints are just a sign of out of shape................DANG as of my experence anyway I iced them and rested every other day and keep going and they vanished after a few weeks no pain no gain.... also slow your pace and avoid down slop areas. that helped me keep going I am a neewby and learning from my mistakes hope this helps
  • 6 months will be more than enough time to train for a half marathon. Just listen to your body and rest when you need it. If running is too painful in the beginning try another activity, such as cycling or swimming, until you can work your way up. Increase mileage slowly in the beginning can help with the pain, too.

There are some excellent resources online.

I think I am going to try a few spin classes to give my shins a rest. Thanks Mkress.... I knew I was going to be in pain but didn't realize how much. I was always very active and in shape. I'm not use to being so out of shape. Thank you Angel and mkress for the advice and encouragement.
