Thinking about changing my goals?

I have it set to eat 1200 calories a day and it says I'll lose 1.3 lbs a week.. but I've barely been losing anything a week.. I work out 6 days a week so maybe I'm not eating enough?
Should I up my calories and see if that boosts me? Set my goals to lose 1 lb a week?

I actually just did that for myself and I started losing again. I hope it works for you too!

You're probably right. 1200 seems low if you're working out. Up your calories a couple hundred and see how your body responds. Small changes are better than large ones.

I'm totally new to this fitness thing, and eating healthy lifestyle. I started a month ago, lost 18 lb my first week. Crazy, right?! I loved it! And then I hit a wall. Nothing moved, for 2 weeks. So I started digging for answers and found that I was freaking out my poor body and it was in a holding pattern. Everywhere I checked it told me to eat more calories. Geez, I want to lose weight, not gain it, right? So I gave in. I was at 1000 cals a day, bumped it to 1500 cals a day and exercised a little differently, not the same old exercise bike stuff (added in yard work and free weights). Wouldn't you know it, this week I lost 3 pounds. Apparently after "a while" your body catches on to what you are doing and your brain can play some nasty tricks on you! But you have to fight back with adding in a few more calories and mixing up the exercise routine. It's completely backwards thinking, but for now it's working. The difficult thing was finding those extra calories and keeping them healthy calories.... You look fabulous, don't give up, just mix it up!
  • Thank you so much! I recently moved back to school, and for the first 6 months I was losing weight I was just restricting to 1200 and doing the elliptical for an hour every single day. I lost 23 lbs that way but I moved back to school and it's been hard to get healthy calories in.. I still work out 6 days a week and I've added spinning AND zumba AND lifting into my routine. it seems nothing is working.

Like you I lost the first 20lb pretty easily and am now down to the last few, which I KNOW are going to come off a lot slower.

I have just changed to 0.5 a week loss and can eat 1410 a day now (great!). I had to change something so gonna see if this works!

If you have a moment read my story on my profile page. synopsis: I've never been "overweight", and always been active, however, I actually gained 15 lbs. over a 1-year period by NOT EATING ENOUGH. It sounds weird, but it happens to very active people who restrict calories too low. After learning about what I was doing wrong and upping the calories, I went back to my normal weight.

    blessings.
  • Ok I'm definitely going to try upping my calories. I usually net less than 1000-1200 most days so I'm going to try and eat more
it makes me nervous that I might gain weight

don't worry. just commit for 3 weeks. you can't tell in 1 week. but what you do know (logically, if not emotionally) is that what you're doing now is not working, and more importantly, what you're doing now is setting you up for yo-yoing. Getting your body used to a healthy and normal amount of food is important -- it keeps you energized, your skin and hair healthy and it lets your body know there is no fear of famine, so it doesn't have to slow down and store every morsel that you eat.

3 weeks, girlfriend. Do it faithfully, reap the rewards, and tell others!

    blessings.

Think of it this way. Upping your calories by a few hundred will not instantly make you gain 10 lbs of fat. It's not even remotely possible. No need to be nervous. You're in control :)

If you are exercising that much, I definitely think you need to up your calories.
  • Thanks guys, I lost another pound since yesterday! Holy crap. I was wondering if I should keep it this way or lower it again? Like isn't mt body going to get used to this then my metabolism will get used to it and start storing again?

I'm gonna keep it like this for 3 weeks, but after that should I bring it back down to 1200?
