I think I hate my scale...

I can get on my digital scale a dozen times and have about 8 different readings. Which do you weigh-in with? Today I chose the highest. Sometimes I pick whichever number shows up more. And I'm not talkin just a few ounces. It can be up to about 2lbs. Today's weigh-in ranged from 232.8 - 234.0, with a few stops at 233.8. Is there some trick to this that I'm not sure about yet? I always have my scale in the same location, on the hard bathroom floor and I always try to put my feet in the same spot and be as still as I can.

Do you use a digital scale? If not, I would definitely go out and get one. I always weight myself first thing in the morning, after using the restroom. That way I haven't eaten or drank anything. This is the best way to get your (true weight).

Could it use a fresh battery?

A dozen times???? I must admit, Im a devil for getting on the scales but Ive now learned that you get on those scales ONCE a week. Same time of day each week is useful. I get on first thing on a morning.

But dont get on a dozen times. I dunno why it should show so differently so many times - but theres no need. You just drive yourself crazy!!! x

When that happened to me, I got a new scale. They are relatively inexpensive these days. I found a decent cheap one at Target.

Yes, it's digital and I do weigh first thing in the morning. It's also fairly new and been like this since I bought it, so I wouldn't think it's a battery issue, but I could try that.

You might want to look into investing in a better scale. Personally I can't recommend any models, so you might just shop around on Amazon and look at reviews and such. I say this as someone who uses her Wii Fit as a scale XD....But seriously, a reading THAT far off isn't normal.

I used to have that same problem! It might be time for a new scale. I got one a few months ago that measures water weight and BMI. It's very reliable and always gives me the same weight when I step on it numerous times to make sure the weight is correct. I don't remember the brand (I'm sorry) but I got it at Target for around $30. Good luck!

If the new battery doesn't work I'd take the scale out, have an "Office Space" moment with it and buy a new one.

I have this same problem with my digital scale. And it's a more expensive one and it does all this other nifty stuff (body fat %, hydration level, bone density, BMI) and I really like it, but it does the wonky thing with the weights too... For example (I weigh in every Friday) this morning's weights were:

    203.8
    204.8
    202.6
    203.8

I go with whichever I get two of first. So, I'm putting down 203.8 as my "official" weight.
  • Which scale do you have? I just ordered Eatsmart Precision Plus Digital Bathroom Scale with Ultra Wide Platform and Step-on Technology, 440-Pounds at Amazon.com and one reviewer said she had the same issues you're having, and she got hers replaced. This one has a 2 year warranty. After she received her replacement, the new one was perfectly accurate. You could try that, if you bought it new and it's under warranty.

Your weight can fluctuate by up to 2lbs at different times of the day. Weigh yourself once, first thing in the morning, and then put the scales away. Obsessing over it is not a healthy attitude towards your new lifestyle. Are you intending to weigh yourself 12 times a day, every day for the rest of your life? If not (and I hope the answer is no!!) then stop doing it today! xxxx

Sounds like the one I have. It's a Health O Meter and was about $30 from Walmart and was just purchased in July. It measures water, bone density, BMI and weight. However I don't really rely on all those settings to be accurate.

It wasn't different times during the day. Today is weigh in day for me. A dozen could have been an exaggeration. I was probably on it 4 times after I used the bathroom this morning. When I realized it was fluctuating, I decided to do my hair and see what it was after that. I probably used it 3 times after that. It's not really obsessing as much as just curious which is the accurate reading.

If it's new it should't be malfunctioning just yet.

When I bought my scales I weighed myself and did it about 3 times (I really wanted to make sure I was as fat and heavy as I was ) and yes all three times came back with the same weight.

Then about a week later, I did the same and it came back with 3 different weights...what the F*! was going on.

Anyhow, I tried the next day and it gave me the higher of the 3 weights and ever since it's been ok.

All I can suggest is to try filling a plastic bag with say 3 bags of dried goods that you're pretty sure the weight of. See what it says on numerous tries then remove or add more weights and see if it fluctuates.

If it does, take it back to the shop where you bought it and ask them to replace it. Unless you paid by cash and don't have the receipt, they should help. if not contact the manufacturer.

Or cut your losses, buy another set for $25 and see if they are any better

Ah ok! I had this image of you weighing yourself constantly throughout the day and it worried me!! I'm sure you agree that would not be a healthy thing to be doing!! In that case, perhaps your scales are a little off. Personally I use my wii fit board, it tells me my weight and bmi.

Maybe include a tape measure going forward. Personally I found looking at a number on the scale five years ago when I started my jouney, to have lead me down the wrong road to weight loss, or should I say fat loss.

if I wiggle around to much or bumb mine or I stand it on an uneven surface it gets all wonkey on me as well, I weigh my self 2-3 times in a row and if it says the same thing then thats what i go with.
