I own a "cell phone", or "mobile", or "iphone", or "life-in-a-machine" purely in case my car breaks down.

    That's it.

    I do and I don't.

I have an ipod touch that I have skype and google voice on - That is how people get a hold of me.

Works like a cell phone when I have wifi and the only times I don't is when driving.

I prefer to live without spending $80+ a month

I have one. Average about 5 minutes a month. I don't text, sext, tweet, twitter or use any other function other than talk on the phone. And I really don't like talking on the phone. If a person calls me that knows me, they know to get to the point as soon after the obligatory greeting as possible. I answer the phone "This is Mike". If someone I don't know calls me, I usuallly hang up on them.

    I don't get many calls.

Got a new feature on the home phone that flashes the incoming caller up on the TV screen. Love it. Now I know who I am ignoring.

lovely. we used to have caller id, but it was driving us crazy because anytime someone we knew called and didn't leave a message, we felt obligated to call them back. we have an answering machine, not voicemail, no call id and no call waiting. if we're not home, leave a message. if the line is busy, call back sometime.

we answer for everyone, but if i can hear a thousand telemarketers going at it in the background, i just lie when they ask i'm home.

As you know, I have a cell phone but we'll never get rid of our land line (unless they become obsolete -- I can see that happening in the future). I was a hold out on cell phones for a long time and was the last of most of my friends to get one. Now, I don't know what I'd do without my Droid. I use the MFP app. to keep up with calories on the road, the Google Earth navigator to get to gigs and find the nearest restaurants, gas stations, etc. when I'm out of town, listen to Pandora in the car, use the C25K app on the treadmill, and the list goes on and on. Most importantly, I need a cell phone for road emergencies (being stranded on the highway at night alone with a bass sucks big time!) Also, my dad has been in the hospital for months and will be for at least a month longer and, being his medical power of attorney, I need to be able to be reached wherever I am. I certainly don't look down on anyone that doesn't have a cell phone -- they're not for everyone -- and if you don't really need one you're smart not to add that extra expense just to "keep up with the Jones'"

Edit: I also never text people. I'd rather just talk to someone on the phone or in person. I only respond to text messages that are sent to me.

I'm a text junkie.... I HATE talking to people on the phone. I'd rather text... Or talk in person. I'm one of those who gesticulates a lot and smile and then I realize they can't SEE me! Duh! LOL
