Wowsers, do you or did you have an ED? That would probably affect our answers. Do you have much muscle tone or are you just really skinny? Are you a veggie?

In my humble opinion I would suggest some mild weight training to start off.

i suggest slowly increasing your calories to whatever level mfp set for you (or alternative calclators: fat2fit.com or freedieing.com---using the GAIN option)

make sure you are eaitng lots of protein (i shoot for 100 g at least but that depends on your stats)

lifting weights is also good for increasing your BMI because you increase your metabolism and your BRM. I really like the new rules of lifting for women program.

I'm confused...INCREASING your BMI means adding fat to your body composition. A BMI of 11 is really low fat.....I'd kill for that.....lol!!!! It's what you would expect from a highly trained athlete. I'm having trouble reconcliling your description of such a low BMI with 10 extra inches around the middle! Adding muscle and keeping the same fat would LOWER your BMI. Are you really skinny with a little jiggle around the middle?

Are you entering your weight in kg instead of pounds? That would account for why it's saying 11.3?

kg vs pounds is probably the issue

I bet that's what she is doing... her ticker is in kg.

    62 kg = 136.4 pounds
with that weight your BMI is 24.9

Have you entered your weight in kg or lbs? 62lbs is about the weight of a 9 year old child. at a bmi of 11 you would be little more than skin and bones, either you have entered your weight in kg where it requires lbs or the site calculator is going screwy
  • @upnorthtim: BMI - Body Mass Index - is simply a ratio of body weight to height. It is not an indicator of body fat levels. A BMI of 11 means the person is seriously underweight for their height.

Having said that, BMI is not the best guide to healthy body weight on its own, precisely because it does not take any account of muscle to fat ratio. Arnold Schwarzenegger, for instance, would have had a BMI in the obese category (over 30) when he was Mr Universe, but no-one could have ever called him fat.

For the OP, previous suggestions of high protein intake are the way to go to try and get your BMI up - check out sports nutrition drinks such as Hi-Pro Force from Health Plus (www.healthplus.co.uk) and make sure you keep your nutritional intake at a good level.

If you really have a BMI of only 11 (which i doubt) I suggest you go and see a Dr/hospital and regain weight under guidance as you are at serious risk of refeeding syndrome, which can kill you (deranged electrolytes). Usually people with eating disorders get hospitalised to gain weight if they have a BMI of less then 14, also with a BMI so low you are at serious risk of heart disease as there will be hardly any muscles left on you, including heart muscles.

I am sure your calculations are wrong, BMI=weight in kgs divided by your height in metres and again divided by height in metres.

From the Centers for Disease Control website.....

"Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person's weight and height. BMI provides a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems."

You are correct that BMI is not a MEASURE of body fat but for most people it does INDEX body fat pretty well. Its hardly fair to compare normal people to Aaahnold.
