Hi there, turned 50 this year and put on 10 lbs. to celebrate! The only thing that changed was my job; now I am a desk jockey. I use to run around, deliver heavy items, push heavy carts, work with young children. Now I sit at a computer most of the time, use my brain more than my body, work with high school age children who love junk food, and I thoroughly enjoy it! But you can see the problem, right? Oh, did I mention I work full-time now? I use to have 2 free afternoons per week and I started swimming laps and taking lots of exercise classes. Now I am dead tired when I get home and the most I can muster is a walk with my dog and bowling once a week. I was a true size 6 and could wear some 4's before, but now I am a size 8 and I'm pushing it. All the extra weight is in the middle and now I know why my mom was a small on top and an 8 or 10 on the bottom.
I am getting re-acquainted with a best buddy who is an exercise fanatic and she turned me on to this site. I meet with her once a week and we do an hour long walk and talk about everything. With her help I will begin to shed some of this weight and start feeling better about my figure. If you are over 50 and have noticed the unwanted body makeover, let's talk...

I can so identify with just about EVERYTHING you wrote! but it didn't happen to me till I was around 53, give or take. Gave up a job where I was constantly on the go, moved to another state and find myself at my desk most days and have had a hard time getting back into exercising. Went from a size 4 to a size 8 and am hating every second of it. Trying to find myself again and it's not easy task. Only difference is that I moved away from all of my exercise buddies when I left Florida 4 years ago and moved to Dallas.0

I am right there with you. It seems that for those of us fiftysomething the weight is so much easier to gain and harder to lose! I am also relatively new to MFP. We can do this...we just have to work harder!0

You need to add a strength training routine in to your daily workouts.0

Thank you, I will do that. Is yoga or pilates considered strength training?0

I can identify! I am 51 and was always in a size 6 and last year started to feel sorry for myself and began eating everything in sight. I gained about 20 lbs. I am now down 15 but I would like to still lose about another 10.
I have been riding a stationary bike daily.
I have ms and am easily fatigued but the bike is the one thing I can do :-) I love this site. The members are very supportive and it is so helpful to keep track of everything!0 -
I agree, we do need to support each other and work together. I truly like myself more now at 50 than ever before, even with the extra weight. If I could just fit into my clothes I would LOVE myself! Too funny...got an email to be your friend, but don't know how to do that, so consider me a friend0
