Questions for C25K grads

I am in the middle of week 6 and have a bunch of questions. Did you use treadmill or run outside and which did you prefer? Did you ever do one week three days in a row to catch up? How did your speed change throughout? What was your final 5k time? And was this your first time running or had you run before but wanted to ease back into it? Amy hard weeks for you in particular?

Thanks for the input!

I run outside.. treadmills give me shin splints more easily, and it's just not the same experience.

I'd run before and kept hurting myself -- but I'd probably attempted running about 4 times before.

I never ran three days in a row -- the point is to give your body downtime to heal. If you could safely run every day, you wouldn't need c25k. My speed stayed about the same throughout, but since I've been done I've worked on sprinting and building speed. I'm up to about 9 min miles and can run a 10k.

I thought the hardest weeks were the first long intervals... for some reason, the 20-minuters were the hardest, but everything beyond that was ok.
  • I have finally, after many more weeks than on the site, finished C25K and I loved it!! I have never been a runner and now I can jog fast for 30 minutes! I actually just jog around the house because I don't have a treadmill and I am a SAHM to an 11month old, but I have a pretty good size living room that works just fine. So I don't know exactly how far I'm going, but I do know I'm jogging A LOT faster and more than I have ever been able to do. I LOVED C25K!!

    C25K is a great program.

For me my speed kept getting slower and slower to be able to run the increasing time, you can always work on speed later, right now your working on endurance.

I believe week four is the 3 minute and then 5 minute run? That one was hard but I did it. I had to repeat weeks here and there. I also did two weeks in the same week. It really depends on you. I believe it took me about 12 weeks all together to get all the way through it.

I did mine on a treadmill, when I started running outdoors I did the C25K again because to me running on a treadmill is nothing like running outside.

Best advice, work at your own pace and slow it down when you need too.

I run outside! I find running on my treadmill now isn't as fun at all.

My pace stayed about the same, but I'm doing the program a second time through now working on my speed and am seeing some nice improvements! (week 4 run pace b4 was 11:19, and this time around is 9:39.

I never did 3 days in a row, have to make sure you get your rest days in, they really help especially when you're just beginning.

My final average pace was 11:40 the first time through, I'm shooting for 10 or under this time!

I'd run before, but nothing really too structured, the structure of the program really helps me stay on track!
