Gas-tly problems...

Hello fellow MFP'ers.
I am wondering if I am not alone. Since I started losing weight and eating right, I have had a significant flatulence problem. It is pretty embarrassing, and pretty constant.
For the most part I eat 3 square meals, where dinner is steamed veggies, lean meats and skip the starches by dinner half the time, staying around 1400 calories per day with workouts about 3 to 6 times a week. I have had great success. I have two snacks a day, usually fruit or a light cracker snack.
But this gassy problem is really not nice. Is it because I am eating so many veggies? Does anyone else have this problem?
I have posted this under Fun and Games just because it didn't really fit anywhere else. I am not joking, but I am wondering if anyone else has had similar issues and any suggestions on what to do about it.

I don't know about you, but a little bit of onion makes me uncomfortable, let alone a whole onion. Any kind of extra fiber will make you gassy at first, but you should get used to it after awhile. If not, than cut back on the high fiber veggies a bit.0

The healthier you eat the more gas you will create. It has to do with how the body digests these healthy foods.0

I've had some issues like this for a while - turns out i had worse problems (candidasis) but you're probably just reacting to normal stuff.
Gas is created when undigested food hits your intestine. There's loads of bacteria in there that eat it for you, and one of the major products of their digestion is gas. This is what happens in lactose intolerant people, but it happens to normal people when they eat a lot of high-fiber food because the whole point of fiber is to fill you up with stuff you cant digest and make use of. It can also happen if you can't digest all of your carbs properly - bacteria love carbs.

I am not an expert on this issue but i think it has to do with your stomach not digesting well. I recommend you see your healthcare professional to check if there is anything wrong.
Anyways, another suggestion is getting leaner. Overweight people tend to do flatulence a lot. haha i remember every time when we are in a group and when someone "flatulates" (i dont know whats the verb for it), we all make fun of the fattest guy. haha When i was overweight (250lbs) i would do it every time after a meal. Now that i am slightly under 200lbs, i do it less.

So I had a problem with this when I was really bulking up on a lot of veggies and fruit. It feels a little like a no win situation. You are hungry, you want to choose the right thing, you go for veggies because it's the least cals, good for you, and bulky, then you get tooty.
For example, I used to eat an entire bag of baby carrots (500g) on my way home because I was hungry, but wanted to keep my points (I was on WW back then) for dinner. But by the time I would get home, my belly would be ready to explode. 500g is clearly too much carrots to eat in one go.
I think it's really a matter of finding different combinations of foods that 1) work well with your body 2) work well with each other and 3) fill you up. So it could just be that you have too, too much fiber going on and maybe you could balance that out a little.
(oh and go for a walk outside, alone, and let your body release it *wink* )0 -

I used to be lactose intolerant but had not had any issues with that recently, but also only recently started having cereal again. I will work on a process of elimination and as suggested, take walks alone sometimes! ha! It is indeed VERY uncomfortable to hold it back. Onions may be suspect too. All good suggestions, and now I feel a bit better that I am not alone. The benefit still outweighs the problem (no pun intended).
The whistle idea is brilliant! Wish I would have thought of that. I had a friend in high school who could light them - was great for parties! (Yeah, when you are 16.... haha).
