I guess this goes under a success story...it feels like it to me!
Here's a quick back story before I get into the real post: 3 weeks ago today I went jogging, and was SO excited to make it all the way around my 2-mile trail without walking, since I hadn't run in months. I was hurting pretty bad though. The next day I was, as expected, very sore. The day after, my legs weren't as bad but my back was feeling pretty tight. Again, nothing unusual. But that Wednesday, I woke up in horrible pain in my back and neck, as well as the worst headache I'd ever had. By the next morning I was in the hospital, diagnosed with meningitis, and forced to stay there in a bed not moving any farther than my IV would allow for three days. My logic? Running causes meningitis.
Anyways, I have been out of the hospital for 2 weeks now, and trying to convince myself that running does not, in fact, cause meningitis. But I have still been pretty inactive trying to recover and get my energy back. Besides a roll in the hay (I mean this very literally, check out the profile pic) last weekend, and dancing with my dance company for about 5 minutes yesterday, I haven't done anything besides walking. In 3 weeks. For a girl who dances in a company for fun and teaches dance for a living, 3 weeks of nothing is torture.
So my story from today: I went jogging. Jogged slowly on the first little straight away and it felt nice. Then there's a BIG downhill, so I opened up my stride and just ran as fast as I could! I have never had my body send me so many mixed signals all at once. My...I don't know...my soul?...was shouting "YES! this is great! keep goooooing!!!!!" and then immediately after my quads go "What the hell are you doing to me?!" and my shoulder started twitching and my lungs were burning, but the whole time that little something in me was just SO happy and excited that I was MOVING again.
I felt miserable by the time I was done of course, but gosh, that felt so good
I can't wait to go again!

Luckily for me I had viral and not bacterial, which is not nearly as bad. Well, not as serious at least.0 -
So sorry to hear you have been ill with meningitis but great news you have made a recovery
You have made a great achievement today and must be buzzing, well done
It's early days yet though so don't go doing too much too soon and knock yourself back
Take care and here's to your next run
